Revenge is the dish served the best cold. Draymond Green got his sweet revenge on Rudy Gobert in the most unexpected manner. During Minnesota Timberwolves’ game against the New Orleans Pelicans, which the former 113-108, something unexpected happened. The game was a wild one for a plethora of reasons, the first being the importance of it for the Wolves. Winning this game would give the Timberwolves two chances, instead of just one in order to get into the first round of playoffs.

The second reason, which took the world by storm, was Rudy Gobert punching his teammate Kyle Anderson during a timeout. The duo had a verbal spat, during which Anderson called Gobert a ‘b***h’, which angered Gobert, who went in for a punch that landed on Anderson’s chest, and chaos ensued.

What’s important is to go back to the Draymond Green and Jordan Poole altercation back in October of 2022. Green was seen punching Poole during the Warriors’ practice session in a video released by TMZ. This video immediately lit the NBA world on fire as it went viral, and several people joined the bandwagon to ridicule Green for his actions. One of these people was Rudy Gobert, who took a subtle jibe at Green and said “Insecurity is always loud.”

Green didn’t take much time in getting right back at Rudy Gobert for subtly roasting him after the Jordan Poole altercation. Green had already apologized to Poole sometime after the incident, and Gobert did the same.

Gobert was immediately sent home after he punched Anderson in the timeout. In the October of 2022, Draymond Green punched and seemingly “knocked out” Jordan Poole during a practice session. Green was probably waiting for revenge on Gobert, which seems to have taken a long time. From October 7th, 2022, to April 10th, 2023, time doesn’t seem to have moved on from that tweet from Draymond, and you best believe, he had to get back.

NBA fans on Twitter were clearly able to figure out who the tweet was for despite Draymond not taking any names. Both players are now 1-1 against each other for a ridiculous stat of punching their own teammate. The spirit of the sport which has been thrown out of the window needs to be brought back. It’ll be interesting to see what the Wolves do and how Gobert gets back from this incident.

But until that time, it’s important for the players to uphold the spirit of the game. Angst, despise and chaos often fills competitive sports, but it’s important to not let anything get between the sport itself.
