On Sunday, Draymond Green said he harbored no regrets for headlocking Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert. The headlock incident happened during the November 14 game. Having completed a five-game suspension, Green clarified that his actions were solely in defense of his teammate, Klay Thompson, during the Timberwolves match.

Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Green asserted that he had no regrets about the incident, marking his first public statement since the announcement of the suspension. This is what Green said:

I don’t live my life with regrets. I’ll come to a teammate’s defense any time that I’m in a position to come to a teammate’s defense.

Gobert accused the Warriors’ forward of intentionally getting ejected because he didn’t want to play without Steph Curry. Additionally, in the statement announcing Green’s suspension, NBA Executive Vice President Joe Dumars emphasized that Green’s history of unsportsmanlike conduct influenced the ban’s length.

Green is expected to return to the Warriors’ lineup when they visit the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento to face the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday night, November 28, 2023. However, Green acknowledged that he has to be better but didn’t offer an apology for his actions against Rudy Gobert. He had 18 ejections and five suspensions in his career, the last being the stomp on the chest of Sacramento Kings forward Domantas Sabonis during last season’s playoff game.

The Warriors hope that Green’s return against the Kings will help them reach the quarterfinals of the NBA In-Season Tournament. Green has averaged 8.8 points, 5.7 assists and 5.1 rebounds this season.
