“DESERVED IT” – Draymond Green knows why ‘leader’ Jimmy Butler would’ve voted Caleb Martin over himself as ECF MVP
MVP controversy and Celtics criticism: Draymond Green weighs in on Eastern Conference Finals

In a thrilling Eastern Conference Finals matchup between the Miami Heat and the Boston Celtics, Miami Heat superstar Jimmy Butler was awarded the Most Valuable Player (MVP) title. However, there has been significant discussion surrounding whether Heat stud Caleb Martin should have got the honor instead. Votes revealed that Martin was just a few votes short of edging out his teammate for the prestigious award.
Golden State Warriors veteran and outspoken forward, Draymond Green, recently shared his views on his podcast, “The Draymond Green Show.” Green expressed his belief that Caleb Martin did enough to earn the MVP title for himself. “If I had a vote, I personally was voting for Caleb Martin for MVP,” Green stated. “He was extremely consistent across the board…he earned it.”
Throughout the seven-game series against the Celtics, Caleb Martin proved to be a standout performer for the Heat. The 6-foot-5 forward showcased his skills by averaging an impressive 19.3 points on 60.2 percent shooting, along with 6.4 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 3.1 triples per game, shooting at an impressive 48.9 percent from beyond the arc.
Green also shared insights into Jimmy Butler’s character, suggesting that Butler himself would have preferred Martin to receive the MVP award. “I know the type of guy that Jimmy Butler is. Jimmy probably would have preferred Caleb Martin to get the MVP. That’s just how Jimmy is,” Green revealed.
Draymond Green criticizes Celtics’ performance and reflects on 2022 NBA Finals

Draymond Green’s goes beyond the MVP debate, as he took the opportunity to critique the Boston Celtics’ performance in Game 7 against the Miami Heat. Green’s relationship with the Celtics has been strained since the 2022 NBA Finals when he engaged in instigating and agitating the Celtics on his way to securing his fourth championship with the Golden State Warriors.
“The Boston Celtics are who we thought they were,” Green said, criticizing the team’s readiness for the decisive moment. He pointed out their struggles in shooting accuracy and their apparent difficulty in playing with their non-dominant hand. Green questioned whether this pattern would become the team’s modus operandi when faced with challenging situations. While the Celtics managed to secure victory in Game 6 of the series, Green noted that they had lost every other crucial game.
“The Boston Celtics are who we thought they were. They got to the moment and they did not look like they were ready for the moment. All of a sudden, all the shots were short again. All of a sudden they looked like they couldn’t play basketball with their left hand again. All of a sudden, they looked exactly who we thought they were. Quite frankly, the first thing I said was, ‘They look like it’s Game 1 of the regular season. They look like they did in the closeout game last year.’ You start to question if that becomes your M.O. When it gets tough, what do you do? If you think back on the series, in every game that mattered for them… They actually lost, except Game 6.”
Green’s comments have highlighted the Celtics’ flaws and raised questions about their performance. The Celtics will need to address these issues as they evaluate their season and get ready for the future and try to strengthen their consistency and mental toughness.
