Draymond Green and Patrick Beverley have a message for their NBA peers: You don’t know the game. They have an interesting take where they are clowning most of their colleagues to have low basketball IQ. Both Green and Beverley are non-scorers but players with significant impact on the floor.

Green undoubtedly is one of the smartest players in the league, especially when he’s playmaking for the Golden State Warriors. His ability to draw plays, set screens, and get his guys open is unreal. Green also suits up as the primary ball handler for his squad. Even Beverley has some big-brain plays registered on the defensive end.

Recently, Green appeared on Beverley’s podcast, “Pat Bev Pod.” He mocked around 60% of the NBA players for having low basketball IQ. The former DPOY quoted, “There’s not many guys that have a basketball IQ in the NBA. You’re talking less than 60% of the NBA.” Beverley disagreed with the percentage as he believed Green was just being nice and should be higher.

Even Green agreed to being generous with that stat and added, “Knowing the game of basketball in this league is like one of the biggest skills you can have. Because it separates you immediately, maybe not as extreme as Steph Curry’s jump shot separates him. But having a basketball IQ in this league immediately gives you a leg up because guys don’t understand the game.”

Draymond Green’s reputation as a high-IQ player took a hit when he punched his teammate Jordan Poole in a practice session. The incident was caught on tape, but its motive remains unclear. Poole, who had a disappointing season with the Warriors, was traded to the Washington Wizards for veteran point guard Chris Paul. Green has not been shy about expressing his frustration with the trade and the punch.

Green explained the reason behind his controversial actions when discussing that moment with Beverley. He said, “I don’t just hit people. Dialogue happens over time, and you usually ain’t triggered by something that fast… We know stuff you don’t say amongst men. We know things that you have to stand on.”

The leaked footage also displays him and Poole chirping at each other and getting into a verbal banter before Green throws a strong right swing at him. That punch had an impact not only on them as teammates but on the complete team and season.
