Following a Game 2 win at home, the Golden State Warriors faced the Lakers in L.A. The series had been tied at 1-1 going into Game 3, as the Lakers avoided a 0-2 deficit on the road. Similar to the previous game, Game 3 wasn’t close, though this time for the Warriors. The Lakers took Game 3 after a blowout win, 127-97, as they go up 2-1 in the series.
After a rough first quarter, the Lakers set their authority over the Dubs, as they outscored them 36-18 in the second quarter. Led by Anthony Davis, who had 25 for the night and 13 rebounds under his name, the Lakers prevailed in this pivotal game. Meanwhile, LeBron James scored 21 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. The Dubs were not in their groove today, with Stephen Curry putting up 23 points.
The Warriors’ stats for Game 3 couldn’t have been worse. The team shot under 30% from the outside while committing 19 turnovers. The Dubs lacked defense against the Lakers, as even their primary defender had no real strategy for this game. Draymond Green, the facilitator, had two points, two rebounds, and four assists in Game 3. Though the Lakers were indeed different compared to the previous game, the Dubs certainly had to adapt defensively to the road environment.
When asked about his defensive philosophy, Green was pretty straight with his mindset on defense. “I won’t adapt. I’m going to keep playing the same defense I’ve played for 11 years,” said Green. For Green, Game 3 versus the Lakers had been his worst game so far into the postseason. The team in purple and gold has definitely proven themselves as a threat in the West, and to go up against them, the Dubs might have to change their strategy. Green was given a technical during the second quarter after arguing with the referee.
Draymond Green’s aura on the defensive end might get costly for the Dubs
Green is a fearless player who won’t give up on any defensive possession easily. Though keeping calm while the game is close, is what he should’ve done. After he was assessed with a technical, the Lakers went on a run to lead by 11 at the half. In the second half, L.A. had the game under their control as they kept extending the lead.
The Warriors are now down 1-2, as Game 4 is yet another road game. The Dubs cannot afford a 1-3 deficit, especially against the new-look Lakers, if they want any chance at another title run. With Game 4 scheduled for Friday, the Dubs will look to avoid a further deficit.
