Draymond Green reveals his major problem with the NBA for handing 3-game suspension to Patrick Beverley

Draymond Green and Patrick Beverley

Patrick Beverley has been suspended for 3 games for shoving Deandre Ayton in the back on Tuesday. The Los Angeles Lakers were visiting Phoenix Suns in the Footprint Center when the altercation happened between the mentioned two teams. The statement was released by NBA and Beverley was called for “forcefully shoving” his opponent in the back.

Perhaps no one in the NBA is in a better position than Draymond Green to give his opinion on this suspension. Green has been suspended before for his violent plays in the past which includes a play against LeBron James during the 2016 NBA Finals. When Sham Charania reported on Twitter about Beverley’s suspension Green wrote, “3 games is a bit excessive.”

Perhaps the former DPOY is right in his opinion since Beverley has been suspended before for his dirties plays against Chris Paul as well. To bring everyone on the same page – he kicked LeBron in the groin which got him suspended for one game. Moreover, he violently shoved Chris Paul in the playoffs from behind, which was much more violent and aggressive than a shove to Ayton. However, the NBA considered other factors like Beverley’s history of sportsmanship as well to reach the decision.

How did the veteran guard reach to his boiling point? Beverley got involved in the altercation with Deandre Ayton and the Suns after Deandre Ayton stood over Austin Reaves and stared him down. Beverley took exception to that and came rushing to Reaves rescue and pushed Deandre Ayton to the floor. Later, the players and coaches from the Lakers came in support of Beverley for standing up for his teammate.

According to NBA Communications, one of the factors that also led to the league suspending Patrick Beverley was his “history of unsportsmanlike acts.”

The decision to suspend Patrick Beverley was announced by the NBA Executive Vice President Head of Basketball Operations Joe Dumars. Patrick Beverley defended his action and said he was a Foxhole guy and he stood up for his teammate.

Got a person on the ground, two people looking over mean-mugging and puffing their chest out and referees don’t get into it to kind of separate it, control the game, so I’m going to stand up for my teammate,” said Beverley in the post-game interview with ESPN.

Not many fans were impressed by the league’s decision to suspend Beverley for 3 games, but for some, it was the right decision by the league to suspend Beverley for 3 games. One of them wrote, “Bruh 3 is excessive”, while another wrote, “It’s not his first incident.” Here are some reactions from the fans;
