Draymond Green is one of the most intriguing free agents in the NBA this summer. The four-time champion and eight-time All-Defensive Team selection has opted out of his $27.6 million player option with the Golden State Warriors, opening the door for other teams to pursue him.
However, Green’s future with the Warriors is not a lock, as he reportedly wants a $100 million contract, which could be hard for the team to match given their salary cap situation. According to Brian Windhorst, a team that could chase Green is the Sacramento Kings, who are looking to build on their first playoff appearance in 15 years. The Kings have over $30 million in cap space, which they could use to offer Green a premium over what he opted out of in Golden State.
The Kings are coached by Mike Brown, who was Kerr’s lead assistant with the Warriors for six seasons and is very close to Green. Brown has praised Green as the “exact type of player” the Kings need, as he would bring defense, toughness and experience to a young and talented core led by De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis.
However, Green and Sabonis have also had their share of bad blood, as they clashed in a heated first-round series that went seven games before the Warriors prevailed over the Kings. Green was suspended for one game after stomping on Sabonis’ chest. Later in the series, he was confronted by Fox after hitting Keegan Murray in the eye.

Where will Draymond Green land in free agency?
Green has a tough decision to make this summer, as he weighs his loyalty to the Warriors against his financial security and his fit with other teams. However, Green’s future with the Warriors is not a lock, as he reportedly wants a $100 million contract, which could be hard for the team to match given their salary cap situation. The Warriors have nearly traded Jordan Poole to create some room, but they still have to pay Curry, Thompson and Andrew Wiggins big money.
Green has said he wants to be a “Warrior for life”, and he has a strong bond with head coach Steve Kerr and new general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr., who both want him back. But he also has other options in free agency, as several teams are interested in his services.
One of them is the Los Angeles Lakers, who are looking to improve their roster after a disappointing first-round exit in the playoffs. Green would provide the Lakers with defense, leadership and versatility.
Green will have plenty of suitors in free agency, but only one team will get his signature. Will it be the Warriors, the Lakers or the Kings? Or will he surprise everyone and choose another destination? The answer will be revealed soon enough.
