The NBA has indefinitely suspended Draymond Green, the defensive star of the Golden State Warriors, for slapping Jusuf Nurkic of the Phoenix Suns during a matchup. The season has raised multiple questions about his disciplinary conduct, as Green previously received a five-game suspension for putting Rudy Gobert of the Minnesota Timberwolves in a chokehold.
The 4-time Champ remains under contract with the Warriors, with an option to renew for one more season. Highlighting his disciplinary issues and the Warriors’ approach to handling previous cases, an NBA executive recently discussed the way forward for both parties involved.
The NBA executive speaking to Heavy Sport’s Sean Deveney,
If you were to get him out of Golden State, there’s really only one team that could possibly trade for him, that’s the Lakers. No one else could really handle what he’s bringing. LeBron James could. Draymond has been kissing up to LeBron for a couple of years now. It’s not just the on-court stuff and the fights and all of that.
He added:
But the contract. The approach. There are not a lot of teams he would want to play for. All of that. Our team, our owner, we could not handle a Draymond Green trade. Most people would say that same thing. The Lakers could handle it, though. I doubt they want to. But they could.
Despite his disciplinary issues, Green has been crucial to the Warriors throughout his tenure with the team. This season, he is averaging 9.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, 5.8 assists, and a 49% field goal percentage.
Lakers lost at home to the Celtics
On Christmas Day, the Los Angeles Lakers faced the Boston Celtics at the Crypto.com Arena. In an entertaining matchup, the Celtics emerged victorious with a scoreline of 126-115. This was the Lakers’ fourth loss in five games and secured the Celtics their third consecutive win.
Leading the statistics, Anthony Davis recorded 40 points, 13 rebounds, and four assists. However, his remarkable performance wasn’t sufficient to prevent a loss. The Celtics were spearheaded by Latvian power forward Kristaps Porziņģis, who contributed 28 points, 11 rebounds, and two assists.
Jayson Tatum also played a pivotal role, finishing the game with 25 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists. Despite a seemingly quiet night for LeBron James, he managed to score 16 points, create eight assists, and secure nine rebounds.
Currently occupying the 9th position in the Western Conference standings, the Lakers are gearing up for their next challenge. Up next, they will host the Charlotte Hornets at the Crypto.com Arena.
