“Nastiest d**k eating I’ve ever seen in my life” – Draymond Green’s BIZARRE request to watch LeBron James create history has NBA fans in disbelief
The Golden State Warriors’ reward for making it out of the first round with a 4-3 series win over the Sacramento Kings is a Western Conference semifinal berth against LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers. While Stephen Curry and co. had to slug it out for seven games, James and the Lakers took care of business against the Memphis Grizzlies in six games in the first round.
James and the Warriors are old rivals. They faced each other four straight years in the NBA finals between 2015 and 2018. Despite their battles on the court, the players are cordial off it. James and Warriors veteran Draymond Green are especially close, with the latter never shying away from praising the Lakers star. He even insisted on being present at the Crypto.com Arena when James became the NBA’s all-time leading points scorer.
James had Hollywood celebrities, former NBA stars as well as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the man who owned the scoring record, courtside and in the audience to witness him create history. Green wanted to be among those who were present to watch James hit the fadeaway to officially become the NBA’s scoring king, despite the Warriors being in Portland, to take on the Trailblazers.
The Warriors had played the Oklahoma City Thunder on February 6th. Their next game would be against Portland two days later on February 8th. LeBron had the chance to break the record versus the Thunder right after their game versus the Warriors the previous day. To attend the Lakers’ game against the Thunder, Green had to ask the team for permission to miss a road game. But his request was denied.
Draymond Green’s dream to watch LeBron James break the record was shattered
Per ESPN’s Marc J. Spears, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr made the decision not to allow Green a day off to watch James create history. He reported, “Steve Kerr decided it was best for Green to be with the team the night before a game in Portland, Oregon, instead of going to Los Angeles to see James.”
NBA fans on Twitter found it hard to digest that Green was willing to miss his team’s game to watch James become the all-time scoring leader. They went berserk in the reply section, making all sorts of comments, while also respecting Kerr’s decision:
Allowing one of the team’s veterans to take some time off from the team in the middle of a regular season to watch a game in LA was a bridge too far for Kerr. What possibly affected the head coach’s decision was the fact that the Warriors were not in the best position on the Western Conference standings at the time as well. With the Warriors and Lakers now poised to battle for a place in the Western Conference Finals, Green and James will keep their friendship aside for the duration of the series and focus on leading their respective teams to victory.
