Golden State Warriors and Draymond Green have been regularly mentioned by the media in recent days. Since that infamous “Superman punch” incident involving Jordan Poole, there seems to be no break for the team, especially on Draymond’s part.

From non-stop media scrutiny to being the root cause of the Warriors’ downfall, the power forward is the big fish at the moment. So much so that even his teammate, Stephen Curry, was blamed for his recent controversies.

In the latest episode of The Draymond Green Show, Draymond expressed his disarray and disappointment after Stephen A. Smith blamed the Warriors talisman Stephen Curry and his leadership qualities. Green expressed his anger by saying:

Stephen A. was like, ‘Steph [Curry] is a bad leader because Draymond did X.' And it pissed me off, but it crushed me. This guy doesn’t give us anything to tear him down about. This guy does everything the right way, and yet he’s being torn down because of my actions? It crushed me.

Green apologized and further thanked Curry for how supportive he has been in recent weeks. Draymond’s thought came out just a few days after his Steve Kerr also gave his take on the situation. The Warriors haven’t really been in the right frame of mind – be it Draymond’s saga or their dreadful form. But it all comes down upon Steve Kerr, who at the moment, himself finds the situation rather irritating.

The 2022 Champions sit 12th in the Western Conference with a record of 17 wins and 19 losses. And ever since Draymond Green’s drama, the team hasn’t really found a rhythm that all the fans hoped for. Injuries, suspensions, and a plethora of scrutiny, it is a very unusual position the Warriors have placed themselves in.

Draymond’s return from suspension

After serving a 12-game suspension issued by the NBA, Draymond Green finally made his awaited return to the court. The Power Forward, who had a few rough moments in the 2023 season finally joined his teammates for practice. The 33-year-old was seen sitting on the bench during the Warriors’ recent game against the Toronto Raptors as a return edges closer.

After a wild altercation with Jusuf Nurkic, Draymond Green received his 4th suspension of the 2023-24 season and the 20th suspension in his NBA career. The first involved a technical foul that saw him banned for 1 game against the LA Clippers.

While the first one wasn’t the worst, the second one was for steeping on stepping on the chest of Domantas Sabonis while playing against the Sacramento Kings. As for the third one, he received a 5 game ban for choking Minnesota Timberwolves’ Rudy Gobert during an on-court altercation. And for his final one, he got an indefinite suspension for swinging at Jusuf Nurkic.

Discipline has been a big subject of discussion when talking about the Golden State Warriors. And while the highly talented team has the potential to create havoc on the pitch, it seems they have taken the word “havoc” too seriously.

It’s undoubtedly a big headache for Steve Kerr, but unlike any other great manager, they have to go through these rough patches, willingly or unwillingly. But the question is: How long will this go on? It’s a tale for time to tell.
