Dwight Howard among the 12 ejected as massive brawl erupts in Taiwanese T1 league that even saw a coach throw hands
Former NBA Star Dwight Howard Ejected Along with 11 Others After Huge Brawl in Taiwanese T1 League
On Sunday, during a T1 league basketball game in Taiwan, a brawl broke out between the Taoyuan Leopards, including former NBA star Dwight Howard, and the Taiwan Beer Herobears. The incident was sparked when Taoyuan Leopard’s player, Chen Hsiao-jung, hit Taiwan Beer Herobears’ Chiang Yu-an with an elbow.
The altercation escalated quickly, resulting in 12 players being ejected from the game, including Howard. This was the biggest brawl in T1 league history. The incident highlights the intense and competitive nature of basketball in Taiwan and the potential for emotions to boil over in high-stakes games.
Following the elbow incident, the situation quickly escalated, with the HeroBears team captain retaliating with a punch. Both players tried to knock each other out, but were momentarily stopped. An assistant coach from the HeroBears team then attempted a haymaker at Chen.
Howard was ejected from the game after leaving the bench, although it appeared he was attempting to calm the situation down. Eventually, game officials and coaching staff from both teams intervened and stopped the scuffle, restoring order to the game. The incident highlights the need for players to control their emotions on the court to avoid dangerous and potentially violent situations.
Dwight Howard is ejected for the first time in Taiwanese League
The officials took their time to assess the chaos following the large brawl. Seven players, including Dwight Howard, were ejected from the contest. The players ejected from the game included Howard, Chen, Michael Efevberha, Lin Yi-huei, Huang Y-sheng, Tseng Pin-fu, and trainer Dimitrios Jimmy Vidas.
The officials also ejected five of the HeroBears players Chiang, Lin, Huang Chen, Liang Hao-zhen, and Tsao Xun-xiang. It is unknown whether all of the players that were ejected will also be suspended.
Howard had 28 points, 14 rebounds, and seven assists for the night’s total. Despite having nearly half of their squad ejected, the Leopards prevailed 120–108.
The Leopards’ record improved to 4-11 after the victory, which keeps them tied for bottom in the T1 league. Although he has put up amazing stats, the three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year winner hasn’t helped his team win. If the Leopards’ season doesn’t improve, many people will view his tenure in Taiwan as a failure.
