Dwight Howard’s revelation of his own GOAT (Greatest of All Time) list came as a surprise to fans, as he ranked players for the controversial debate, but notably left his former teammates off the top list.
The Taoyuan Leopards’ center’s GOAT list raised eyebrows. Ranking Michael Jordan and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar at the top, followed by LeBron James and Kobe Bryant, left some puzzled, especially considering Dwight Howard had previously played with both LeBron James and Kobe Bryant and even won a Championship alongside James.
During an episode of the Expert Opinion podcast, the former NBA All-Star, Howard, weighed in on the contentious GOAT debate. Howard said, “I think it’s 1A and 1B with Kareem [Abdul-Jabbar] and [Michael] Jordan, and then LeBron [James], and then Kobe [Bryant] … they like 3 [LeBron] and 4 [Bryant].”
Dwight Howard continued to justify his decision to rank Kareem at the top, stating, “Why is no big man ever put in this category? … ok for Kareem to score thirty-eight thousand or something points without threes, you don’t think that’s hard?” His main reason boiled down to centers having to work harder for their points
Howard has every right to stand firm with his GOAT list. Furthermore, his playing experience with Kobe Bryant during his tenure with the Lakers adds a unique perspective to his opinions on basketball legends. The trade deal involving the Magic, Lakers, 76ers, and Nuggets allowed Howard to share the court with Bryant.
Dwight Howard did pair up with LeBron James during his second stint with the Lakers, where they won the NBA Championship in the NBA Bubble. He also joined James’ Lakers for another year during the 2021-2022 NBA season.

New reports have surfaced that Dwight Howard is still looking for an NBA contract. The 37-year-old is currently playing in the T1 League with the Taoyuan Leopards but had expressed his desire to return to play for an NBA team.
Howard told Mark Haynes of the Sacramento Observer that he is open to an NBA contract, especially with the Sacramento Kings. “ I’m not retired from the NBA just yet … I would love to help the Sacramento Kings contend for a title. Even though I believe their team is pretty much set.” Howard added, “The thing that stood out most this year was the contracts that players signed accepting their roles and actually sticking with it no matter what.”
The Kings currently have a Star-level center in Domantas Sabonis but a backup role at the center spot is still open. A return is still questionable as Howard’s exit from the league stemmed from his off-court conduct with the coaching staff as reported by media outlets.
Howard is still a dominant force in his recent appearances in Taiwan but no teams have offered him a contract. With training camp coming up soon, Howard is likely to be left out of an NBA contract.
