“Time to shift from NBA to WWE” Dwight Howard reportedly shows interest to join WWE after being spotted in Tryouts

Dwight Howard has been in the league for 18 seasons and achieved it all in the NBA. Now at the age 36, he still has something left in the tank to make a push in the league. But the former DPOY is currently a free agent after the latest run with the Los Angeles Lakers, he is taking shots at different games. Howard made a surprise appearance Thursday at a WWE tryout session in Nashville, where the mega event SummerSlam will be held this weekend. The eight-time NBA All-Star and one-time NBA champion used his wrestling alias, Sho’nuff — the villain from the 1985 movie “The Last Dragon.”

Howard cut a promo and participated in in-ring drills. According to Arash Markazi, Howard spent about five hours at the tryouts. Markazi added that Howard told him he legitimately wants to join WWE one day.

As Howard told the reporter, “I think it is something that’s in my future. I love the WWE, I love wrestling. Hopefully one day in the future I’ll be in the ring wrestling and holding up that belt. It’d be amazing.” Former All-Star seemed to be living his dream of making a WWE appearance and was serious about a possible career change. In the tryouts, Dwight was seen asking coaches and attendees how to properly take a bump in the ring and do other moves in order to make it real.

Cross-game appearances are not new in sports. NBA’s big man Shaq made a famous appearance in WWE when he was pitted against giants in wrestling. Though O’Neal made a guest appearance in the world of wrestling and never followed it up, Former Magic’s Center seems very serious about his career in WWE.

Former 1st overall pick Dwight Howard helped the Orlando Magic to an NBA Finals appearance in 2009. But he finally won the NBA trophy in his 2nd stint with the Los Angeles Lakers. Additionally, he was a walking double-double during his prime. He’s averaged a double-double 14 times during his 18-year career across 7 teams.

Howard would be getting a late start in the wrestling world, but it would not be without precedent. Famed WWE icon Diamond Dallas Page started his wrestling career at 35. Though it is difficult to change sport at a late age, Howard is determined to make a strong move.

Howard reflects on his current tryouts, “Hopefully, one day in the future, I’ll actually be in the ring, wrestling and holding up a belt. I’m grateful and thankful for this opportunity to be here and just witness this whole thing, tryouts, and everything”

WWE is all about athleticism — which the 6-10 Howard still possesses despite his back surgeries over the years. Dwight is a famous personality, so fan following won’t be an issue for him, we would have to see how the former NBA Champion fares in the new game
