Dwight Howard has fired shots at the Laker’s management for their failure during the 2020-21 season. The 6-foot-10 center questions the 2021 Lakers roster construction attributing it to the team’s immediate downfall. Former Los Angeles Lakers big man Dwight Howard recently opened up about his time with the Lakers. The center was apparently upset with the organization for not re-signing the same players from the 2020 NBA Bubble team. The Lakers chose not to re-sign Howard and went on to sign two players in his position.

The Taiwan superstar did not mince his words about the Lakers in a recent interview. “Why didn’t the Lakers just bring us back? We just won a [2020] championship… They went and got Marc Gasol and Montrezl Harrell.” Howard added, “That was their way of saying, ‘We got younger and better at the [center] position.'” Howard was reportedly planning to re-sign a new contract with the Lakers when the team decided to part ways with him. The big man played an integral part in the Laker’s 2020 NBA Championship run. Howard was their main defensive catalyst alongside Davis and was vital during the Denver Nuggets series.

The Los Angeles Lakers after winning the Championship traded away Danny Green and let go of Howard. The team’s season was plagued with injuries due to a shortened offseason, only ending up as the 7th seed. The team lost to Phoenix in the first round and saw scarcely any production from Gasol or Harrell.

Although Howard rejoined the Lakers in the 2021-22 season, the big man never really found a footing in his return. After his dismissal from the Lakers, the former All-Star joined the Taoyuan Leopards of the T1 League

After playing for months in Taiwan, Dwight Howard is looking to re-establish himself in the NBA. The big man recently told a reporter that he is open for an NBA roster spot. The Leopards superstar also mentioned the Sacramento Kings to be his preferred destination.

Howard told  Mark Haynes of the Sacramento Observer that he plans to sign an NBA, especially with the Sacramento Kings. “ I’m not retired from the NBA just yet … I would love to help the Sacramento Kings contend for a title. Even though I believe their team is pretty much set.” Howard said.

The former All-Star looked back on the Laker’s previous season saying, “The thing that stood out most this year was the contracts that players signed accepting their roles and actually sticking with it no matter what.” It is also important to note that Howard and the Lakers parted ways in 2021 due to salary complications.

Currently, Howard is dominating the T1 League and has amassed a cult-like following in Taiwan. Although the star expressed his desire to return to the NBA, no team has offered him a contract as of now.
