Dwight Howard finally shared what happened to his contract with the Lakers after the bubble run. In the summer of 2021 still fresh off of the 2020 bubble Championship with the Lakers news broke out that Dwight will not re-sign with the Lakers and would instead be joining the Sixers. Dwight went on the LateNightLakeShow and shared that it was actually the Lakers who rescinded their offer from him.

Howard, on the podcast, recalled the incident, and quoted: “I remember my agent texting me about the Lakers… Can they(Lakers) give me 2 years I just want to be somewhere safe to end my career … I felt like I deserved …to end my career with the Lakers.” shortly after his call with his agent, he got the news that they can offer him a 1-year deal in which he replied, “Well give me like 15 mins to think about it.” Funny enough the Lakers then rescinded their offer with him when he accepted the contract offer.

This explains a lot about why Shams on Twitter shared the then-deleted tweet stating that Howard would re-sign with the Lakers the day before he was shifted to the Philadelphia 76ers.

Dwight was one of the integral pieces for the Lakers’ success in the bubble helping Anthony Davis in the double-big lineup where he averaged 6.1 points and 5.3 rebounds per game through 25 games who was then replaced by DeAndre Jordan and Marc Gasol who both barely saw minutes by the end of the season.

Taiwan stars Jeremy Lin and Dwight Howard rising in popularity

After their successful NBA careers, both Jeremy Lin and Dwight Howard, found a new home in Taiwan as they are one of the most famous athletes right now in Taiwan. On February 10, Former Houston Rockets teammates competed against each other, well technically they didn’t play against each other but competed in terms of ticket sales for fan interest.

Taoyuan Leopards (Howard’s team) played the Kaohsiung Aquas at the K-arena in the T1 LEAGUE and Jeremy’s Steelers faced the Taishin Dreamers at Kaohshing Fengshan Arena in the P. LEAGUE. Although the Steelers average only 2382 fans per home game the tickets for the match sold out and the same goes for Dwight’s Game as 15,000 seat tickets were sold out in a minute once Howard’s arrival was confirmed.

Both players are extremely popular in both Taiwan and China which also led to some controversies – Dwight Howard got into a heated online scandal where he mistakenly called Taiwan a country in an advertisement and Jeremy Lin is getting backlash for playing in Taiwan as a last resort after playing in China for a few years.

Despite all the controversies both players are still at the peak of their popularity in Taiwan with fans flooding the streets at the sight of Howard or Lin and recently Dwight was seen attending Jerremy’s game against the Braves and the two shared a moment afterwards that went viral on social media.

Dwight is currently linked to the Lakers for a return to the NBA and Jeremy is rumoured to be on the potential candidates list for a veteran point guard to mentor Jalen Green.
