Earlier this month, Funches initiated a fresh legal action against Wade, who had entered into a lucrative six-year contract with the Miami Heat in 2010, valued at $107 million. Wade’s substantial earnings, stemming from both his salary and endorsement deals, amounted to a grand total of $26 million the previous year. This impressive income secured his position as the 12th highest-earning athlete according to Sports Illustrated’s ‘Fortunate 50’ list.

The lawsuit against Dwyane Wade: Allegations of endorsement deal disputes and financial struggles

The lawsuit, officially filed on July 9 in Cook County Circuit Court, alleges that Wade is failing to transfer the proceeds generated from his endorsement agreements into a jointly managed account, as stipulated by the terms of their divorce settlement dating back to 2008. The prior agreement had initially been invalidated during the couple’s acrimonious custody dispute, only to be reinstated after Funches pursued an appeal.

In her lawsuit, Funches contends that her financial challenges, including difficulties in covering mortgage payments and insurance for her properties and vehicles, have arisen due to Wade’s withholding of his endorsement earnings, which include deals with companies like Gatorade, T-Mobile, and Staples.

After their divorce, Wade was granted sole custody of their two children due to Funches’ consistent public criticism of him. In her most recent legal action against the basketball player, Funches alleges breach of contract and civil conspiracy, with a request for $2 million in damages. Wade, who recently achieved an NBA Championship victory with the Miami Heat, has been in a romantic relationship with actress Gabrielle Union since 2007.
