Wade played for the Heat for the majority of his career. Being one of the best guards of his era, D-Wade was an influential personality and provided for the people of Miami. Following his retirement, Wade has been seen on a lot of television shows as well as his own TV show, The Cube. This just tells how Wade has maintained his image after leaving the court. In fact, Dwyane Wade and his family don’t reside in the state of Florida. Wade spent 16 years playing for the Heat and lived in the city of Miami throughout. He had never moved out of the city or state during his tenure with the Heat. Having spent almost two decades in Florida, Wade’s decision to move out of the city was personal and he did so for his family.

Wade recently revealed on Rachel Nichols’ show, ‘The Headliners’ that he and his family do not reside in Florida anymore. This news seemed puzzling at first, as for Miami’s legend to move out, didn’t make much sense. The reason came out to be Florida’s restrictive policies on the rights of LGBTQ residents of the state. “I have to make decisions for my family, not just personal, individual decisions.”, said Wade.

Wade’s daughter, ZayaMalachi Airamis Wade came out as transgender in 2020, as D-Wade revealed on the Ellen Degeneres show. Zaya’s former name was Zion Malachi Airamis Wade. She had her name, as well as gender, legally changed after Wade filed a petition in August 2022. The Wade family had always supported her decision including protecting her choices, as they decided to move out of Florida.

For the Miami Heat legend, he is always welcomed in Miami, Florida, though even after the luxuries Wade has living in that state, his family comes first. “You know, obviously, the taxes is great. Having Wade County is great. But my family would not be accepted or feel comfortable there. And, so that’s one of the reasons why I don’t live there.”, Said Wade on ‘The Headliners’. Not only the Wade family but also other residents of Florida have moved out already due to the state’s policies on the LGBTQ community.
