LeBron James sat out the previous matchup against the San Antonio Spurs with a bruised left calf. In that game, his superstar teammate Anthony Davis provided a highlight reel play against Spurs’ rising superstar Victor Wembanyama. This time, it was the King’s time around.
Leading the Los Angeles Lakers with three starters out, James had to take on the offensive load. In the final minute of the second half, James was pinned outside the 3-point line by Wembanyama. James performed a hesitation one-step dribble and launched a three. With the long outstretched arm of Wembanyama in his face, James had to take a rainbow shot to avoid the block. The all-time leading scorer had to be creative to score against the 2nd highest-blocking player in the league this season.
The game between the Los Angeles Lakers and the San Antonio Spurs was one-sided. Leading in all four quarters of the game, the Spurs ran out, winning 129-115. The Lakers were without starters Anthony Davis (hip injury), D’Angelo Russell (migraine), and Cam Reddish (right knee soreness). With the offensive distribution substantially reduced, the Lakers had to resort to bench players to help LeBron James in the game.
James finished with 23 points, seven rebounds, and 14 assists to lead the Lakers. The Spurs were led by Devin Vassell, who put up 36 points and six rebounds for a career night. Victor Wembanyama could not replicate his performance in the last game but still put up 13 points, 15 rebounds, and five assists.
Fans speechless after LeBron James shoots over Victor Wembanyama
LeBron James has made it a habit of entertaining fans since coming into the league in 2003. Playing in his 21st season, James’ game does not seem to have slowed down, averaging 25.2 points, 7.5 rebounds and seven assists this season. Night in and night out, he has been providing highlight reel-worthy plays.

The rainbow shot was necessary. Otherwise, James would not have had any chance of scoring. Wembanyama possesses a problem that James has not faced to date. A 7′ 4″ player with an 8-foot wingspan guarding the perimeter demands creativity. Fans went livid over the internet watching this. Check out some of the fan reactions:
Wembanyama is still developing and learning as the season continues. Adapting from European basketball is a tough task for any rookie. As Wembanyama and the rest of the league adapt to each other, NBA fans will see more such plays on the court.
