Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra has been awarded the biggest coaching contract in league history. While his well-wishers congratulated him, some fans turned toward his ex-wife Nikki Sapp and talked smack towards her for not being part of this. However, she has responded to such comments.
Nikki Sapp and Erik Spoelstra divorced in November 2023. So the timing of the massive contract extension did not work in Sapp’s favor. One of the comments that went Nikki Sapp’s way was that she apparently ‘fumbled the bag’. To this, she replied on her official Instagram account saying:

Sapp took a stand against the general opinion that women marry successful people for money and fame with her post.
Nikki Sapp and Erik Spoelstra met in 2008 when Spoelstra just transitioned from being an assistant coach to handling head coaching duties. They married in 2016. They have three children together. They divorced in November 2023.
The contract extension has just happened. Fans apparently could not digest how this transpired after she left coach Spoelstra, just one and a half months later. Fans have the right to voice their opinion, and so does Nikki Sapp.
Erik Spoelstra and the biggest coaching contract in basketball history
Erik Spoelstra joined the Miami Heat as a video coordinator in 1995. When Hall of Fame coach Pat Riley joined the Heat as head coach in the same year, Spoelstra would have almost lost his job had Riley brought in his video coordinator.
After being an assistant coach to Riley since 2001, Riley hand-picked Spoelstra to be the next head coach in 2008. 6 NBA finals appearances and only 3 seasons without a playoff run out of 16 landed Spoelstra an 8-year $120 million extension.
Nikki Sapp might have left her successful husband, but as her response shows, she will not take fans bullying her for something she is not.
