A couple of weeks ago, the Golden State Warriors traded for 12-time All-Star Chris Paul, sending shockwaves across the league. Paul was initially traded to the Washington Wizards as part of the deal that sent Bradley Beal to the Phoenix Suns. The Warriors’ move to acquire Paul meant young star Jordan Poole went the other way, along with forward Patrick Baldwin Jr., guard Ryan Rollins, and a pair of draft picks.

Chris Paul apparently learned about the trade while playing in a pick up game. Theo Pinson, who most recently played for the Dallas Mavericks, made an appearance on a podcast recently and told the story. “He threw a little pickup session in Winston and we hooping or whatever, my team is loosing and I’m just sitting on the sideline and I’m on my phone just scrolling and I see Chris get traded on Instagram. I’m looking at Chris, he hooping and I’m like, ‘This dude going to the Warriors, he ain’t got no idea,” said Pinson.

Chris Paul learned about the trade through his son, who read about the news online and informed him about it when he met him after the pick up game. Paul then went back on the court and started nailing shots from half court, prompting Pinson to think, “Oh you a splash bro now huh?” Upon hearing the news, not many Warriors fans seemed excited about the trade.

It was considering they got a 38-year-old Paul whose production has dipped significantly in the last couple of years and they had to get rid of their talented young guard Jordan Poole, who was considered to be a fan-favorite and the future of the franchise.

Draymond Green, who most recently signed a new 4-year deal to remain with the Warriors, seemed to disagree. He believes that having a veteran like Paul can help the team immensely. Green expressed his desire and eagerness to get on the court with Paul and said that he can be a great anchor for the second unit, considering they lacked in that department last season. He also said Paul can help unlock Jonathan Kuminga’s potential, who still hasn’t found consistent minutes under Steve Kerr.

Damian Lillard was keen on a move to the Warriors before the Chris Paul trade

Damian Lillard would have been a great addition alongside Steph Curry and Klay Thompson

Prior to the team acquiring Paul, Portland Trail Blazers superstar guard Damian Lillard reportedly had the Warriors on his radar as a potential trade destination. Unfortunately, the deal did not go through. Lillard finally requested a trade after enduring eleven frustrating seasons with the Blazers.

At this point, he is keen on joining the Miami Heat and playing alongside Jimmy Butler and his good friend Bam Adebayo. The Blazers are stern on their stance of getting an equal return in value for Lillard. Had the Warriors actually landed the seven-time All-Star on their team, they would have arguably had the three best shooters in the league today. Lillard, Stephen Curry, and Klay Thompson would have been playing together as teammates. Those three could have destroyed teams with their long-range shooting.
