Family of abducted girl claims inaction of Dallas Mavericks and Police in Sex Trafficking Case

Dallas Mavericks and American Airlines Center

Dallas Mavericks have been in the headlines multiple times this season for many unwanted incidents at their arena American Airlines Center. From fans heckling and putting their hands on Chris Paul’s mom and wife to a 15-year-old girl being abducted by a man and forcefully made a part of sex-trafficking operations. The American Airlines Center has seen it all. Dallas Mavericks are surely disappointed with all these tragic events happening at their home arena. But they could have prevented the sex trafficking of the innocent 15-year-old girl who was just there to enjoy some basketball with her dad and cheer for her team. The family of that unfortunate innocent girl believes many could have stopped it but they just didn’t even tried to help them.

The attorneys have listed American Airlines Center, Dallas Mavericks, Dallas Police Department, Oklahoma City Hotel, and North Richland Hills Police Department as parties that could have prevented trafficking. The 15-year-old girl was abducted by a man on April 8 during a Dallas Mavericks game and she was rescued after 11 days from an Oklahoma City hotel. Her father says that she went to the bathroom right before halftime but never made it back. He even addressed it to the authorities present there (Dallas Mavericks Police Department) but was told to report it to North Richland Hills Police Department as he lives there. Even they didn’t help the father as the incident happened in Dallas.

But thanks to the Houston-based human trafficking agency Texas Counter-Trafficking Initiative who helped the frustrated and helpless family after the official departments who could have prevented it failed to. Fortenberry (representing the family on the ongoing case) said that: “That agency was able to help them locate the photograph of their daughter online within the same day.” Further, they contacted Oklahoma City Police Department who then rescued the 15-year-old girl. Fortenberry also mentioned that the Dallas Police Department never even asked for a photograph to start the search and is also targeting Dallas Mavericks for not responding back to his letters.

The Dallas Mavericks never responded to the letters sent to them and never even commented on the whole tragic incident that happened during their game at American Airlines Center. But on April 20 when the girl was found the team released the following statement: “The American Airlines Center (and the Dallas Mavericks) are grateful that the teenager has been found. Both entities will continue to cooperate with local and regional law enforcement on this case.”

Fortenberry believes the man that abducted the little girl got inside with fake tickets sold by a man known by the organizations: Dallas Mavericks and AAC. He believes they’ll respond soon to his letter and the situation then could be settled without a lawsuit or else it just won’t go that well for the NBA team.
