New York is often called the mecca of basketball, and New York basketball fans are some of the most passionate in the game. The problem for fans in New York is that their basketball teams in the NBA, the Brooklyn Nets and The New York Knicks, have struggled to win a championship for a very long time. The last time a New York team made it to the finals was in 2002-03. So, they have been struggling for almost two decades now.
Similar to the NBA teams that have failed to impress their fans, their WNBA team, The New York Liberty, has also followed the same pattern. They showed hope by becoming a title contender this season and even winning the Commissioner’s Cup against the current WNBA champions, the Las Vegas Aces. They also self-proclaimed the title of the best team in New York after finishing as the second seed behind the Aces.
After their win against the Washington Mystics in the quarterfinals of the WNBA playoffs, The New York Liberty’s coach, Sandy Brondello, said that they were the best team in New York, surpassing the Knicks and the Nets. Brondello stated, “The Liberty is the best team in New York.”
NBA fans troll New York Liberty after their coach calls them the best team in New York

The statements made by Sabrina Ionescu and Sandy Brondello, where they claimed their team to be the best in New York, didn’t really appeal to fans of the Knicks and the Nets, who then trolled the team for their comments. Here are some of the reactions:
Liberty can silence all of their critics if they go on a successful playoff run this season and win the championship, which none of the New York teams have been able to do in the NBA since the Nets won in the ABA back in 1976. The responsibility of winning the championship lies upon their star players like Sabrina Ionescu, former MVP Jonquel Jones, and Courtney Vandersloot.
