“Run for mayor” Fans BULLY Magic Johnson’s ‘What’s next?’ remark while making history on his latest MLS victory

Magic Johnson at an LAFC championship game

With his five titles in ten years and his legendary abilities with the basketball, Magic Johnson commanded the Lakers in the 1980s and significantly influenced the culture of the team. When Los Angeles FC ended up winning the MLS Cup dramatically, the former famous point guard received his 13th total ring where he posted a cryptic tweet afterwards.

As the facilitator of the Los Angeles Lakers for nine NBA Finals and five titles over the course of 13 seasons, Magic Johnson is regarded as one of the greatest winners in the history of mainstream sports. Johnson’s post-playing career has been every bit as financially beneficial as his time spent on the court. The Lakers legend has taken part in a number of business ventures, including ownership groups of many sports teams. He has equities in the Los Angeles Dodgers, Sparks, and the Football Club, where he recently won the championship.

What bothered the fans was Johnson’s puzzling tweet after his team’s triumph in the MLS. Magic on Twitter wrote: “God has really blessed me! 10 NBA Championships (5 as a player and 5 as an owner), a World Series ring with the Dodgers, a WNBA Championship with the Sparks and now an MLS Championship with LAFC….what’s next???” After a 3-3 tie in regulation, LAFC defeated Philadelphia Union on penalties and with the dramatic victory, the host team became the first team since  2017 to win both the Cup and the Supporters’ Shield.

Magic Johnson’s illustrious NBA career

The 6-foot-9 point guard made an immediate impact with the Lakers after being drafted, and his superb distribution and passing skills contributed to the NBA stepping into a new era. Between 1982 and 1991, Johnson led the NBA in assists four times while averaging a double-double. In 1983, he was chosen for the first of nine consecutive All-NBA first teams. During this period, he won three regular season MVP titles. With the “Showtime Lakers,” Johnson led the Laker team to five NBA championships.

In 1991, Magic Johnson announced that he would be leaving the NBA after testing positive for HIV. Johnson was then voted by the fans to participate in the 1992 All-Star Game despite missing the 1991–92 season and he earned his second All–Star Game MVP award. He took part in the Olympics in 1992 in Barcelona and helped “The Dream Team” win the gold medal. Magic Johnson amassed a staggering 17,707 points, 6,559 rebounds, 10,141 assists, 1,724 steals, and numerous more feats during the course of his 13 NBA seasons.

Fans react to Magic Johnson’s ‘What’s next?’

It was difficult to believe that Johnson would keep on winning titles when he retired, however, this couldn’t be further from the reality. As a co-owner, Johnson really went on to win titles in three more sports as he has three championships under his belt: one with the Dodgers, one with the Sparks, and his most recent with LAFC. Even if it means he won’t have to compete, Johnson keeps adding to his resume of honors and titles.

This is how the fans reacted to Johnson’s tweet after getting his 13th ring:

For Johnson and the entire LAFC ownership group, which also includes Will Ferrell, this must have been an amazing experience. The business was founded in 2014 and had consistently been in the running to win it all before ultimately pulling it off this season. Johnson is the CEO of Magic Johnson Enterprises, a business he established. There were speculations that Johnson was putting together a group to purchase a minority stake in the Las Vegas Raiders in late October, which would be his first venture into NFL ownership.
