Last night, the Los Angeles Lakers, without LeBron James, who was out with an ankle injury, suffered a defeat on the road against the Minnesota Timberwolves with a scoreline of 118-111. This marks the fourth consecutive loss for the Lakers, and it is their fifth out of six games since triumphing over the Indiana Pacers in Las Vegas with a score of 123-109.

In an evenly contested game against the in-form Timberwolves, the Lakers found themselves outclassed. Anthony Edwards led the Timberwolves with 27 points, seven rebounds, and five assists, receiving support from Karl-Anthony Towns, who contributed 21 points, six rebounds, and four assists for his team.

Despite Anthony Davis topping the players’ statistics charts with 31 points, eight rebounds, and four assists, his impressive performance wasn’t sufficient to lead the Lakers to victory. Stepping up in the absence of LeBron James was Austin Reaves, who concluded the game with 20 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.

The Lakers’ recent form has become a cause for concern among fans and analysts, resulting in their team slipping to 10th place in the Western Conference standings with a record of 15-14. The upcoming challenge for them includes the likes of the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Boston Celtics, two in-form teams that they need to face in back-to-back games.

Fans react to Lakers’ poor run of form

Since winning the inaugural NBA In-Season Tournament, the Lakers have been abysmal. This disappointing run of form has led to losses against the Dallas Mavericks, the San Antonio Spurs, the New York Knicks, the Chicago Bulls, and most recently, the Timberwolves last night.

The terrible run of form has prompted fans to express their discontent on social media, with the popular platform X bearing the brunt of the complaints. A couple of fans reactions can be seen below:

Amidst the belief among most fans that hanging the NBA Cup banner has been more of a curse than a blessing, the Lakers are hopeful of dispelling that notion in the near future. They will aim to return to winning ways soon and will be looking for more glory this season.
