The Los Angeles Lakers are a storied franchise. They are the most recognizable basketball team in the world. They have the most titles in NBA history, along with the Boston Celtics.

The first In-Season Tournament has come to a close. There was confusion as to whether the Lakers should put up a banner to commemorate this victory. Traditionally, the franchise is so proud of its championships that they do not hang Divisional championship banners in their arena.

Apparently, their lead man, LeBron James, wanted this banner hung. And he had timely support from NBA Commissioner Adam Silver.

The Lakers prefer to showcase only their title wins. Such is their focus as a franchise, that they have traditionally stuck to that model. So, when the In-Season Tournament was over, there was a lot of discussion as to whether the Lakers should hand this banner. Shams Charania of The Athletic reported the decision yesterday.

The Lakers won the inaugural title after defeating the Indiana Pacers 123 – 109. The importance of this tournament in an NBA season is why their lead superstar LeBron James and commissioner Silver wanted the Lakers to break their tradition for the importance of the game.

Basketball and most notable Lakers fans have long maintained that the Lakers only hang championship banners. This decision to hang the In-Season Tournament banner is going to add to their legacy of being the best team in basketball.
