With the off-season in full flow, the NBA world has already witnessed some shocking trades. One, in particular, was the trade that sent Jordan Poole to the Washington Wizards and saw Chris Paul joining the Golden State Warriors. Fans had mixed reactions to the blockbuster trade. Some were ecstatic to have a future Hall-of-Famer and one of the best leaders in the game join the Dubs. However, several were disappointed that the Warriors traded away a talented young player for a much older player whose production has declined considerably in these past few years.
Recently, prior to trading Poole to the Wizards, as per The Athletic’s Tim Kawakami, the Warriors reached out to the Toronto Raptors to see if there was mutual interest in a Jordan Poole for OG Anunoby trade. The Raptors declined, considering Anunoby is far more valued. Furthermore, Poole’s four-year, $128 million contract was a factor as well.
Jordan Poole was a major contributor to the Warriors’ championship-winning season in 2021/22, stepping up with some incredible performances with key players out and providing some much need scoring off the bench. He was rewarded handsomely with a multi-year contract extension deal.
Unfortunately, Poole did not live up to expectations last season and saw a major dip in production and playing time, eventually leading to the Warriors being eliminated in the second round of the playoffs. It’s hard to point the finger at what exactly went wrong with Poole, but the pre-season incident with Draymond Green could have played a hand in Poole probably losing his confidence.
Anunoby, on the other hand, has been delivering consistently on both ends of the floor for the Raptors and has become of the most valuable 3-And-D players in the league. The 2019 NBA Champion led the league in steals last season, averaging 1.9 per game, making him the first British player ever to accomplish such a feat. Along with his stellar defense, he also averaged 16.8 points per game while shooting 38.7% from the three-point line.

Fans make their feelings known about the Jordan Poole for Anunoby trade proposal
While the Raptors declined the Warriors’ trade offer, many fans on social media did not let go of the chance to mock Poole. Moreover, Raptors fans on Twitter made it clear that if this trade had gone through, they would have been far from happy. Here are some of the best reactions:
While Poole has now found a new home in Washington and will be looking to start afresh, Anunoby’s name continues to swirl around in trade rumours. It will be interesting to see if the Raptors actually decide to move on from Anunoby, considering how well he has played. But if they do, they would certainly seek a lot in return.
