“I can’t wait to touch down and start playing for the Taoyuan City Leopards” Fans perplexed as Dwight Howard unexpectedly announces joining Taiwan basketball league
Dwight Howard
Dwight Howard recently joined the Taoyuan City Leopards, and made his way to the Taiwan Basketball league. Dwight has played over a thousand games in the NBA league. Everyone, including the fans, is surprised by Howard’s sudden move. Many thought he’ll be back in the league or will be joining the world of wrestling. So him joining the T1 Pro Basketball league was very unexpected.
Dwight was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2004 NBA draft. He played his last season with the Los Angeles Lakers. In 18 years in the league, Howard was an eight-time NBA All-Star and a three-time Defensive Player of the Year; he won one championship, in 2020, in his second stint with the Lakers. Dwight shared the news of him joining the Taoyuan City Leopards through a video that he posted on his Instagram handle.
He quoted, “I can’t wait to touch down and start playing for the Taoyuan City Leopards.” He added, “I can’t wait to see the fans, eat the food and have the best time ever.” NBA world and Howard’s fans have given out mixed reactions as soon as the news of him joining another league went viral. A few of the tweet reactions can be seen here below:
Dwight Howard to try his luck with the Taoyuan City Leopards
Dwight known as the ‘superman’ last played for the Los Angeles Lakers and has been an unsigned free agent since then. No NBA team was ready to pick up the soon-to-be 37-year-old big man. Hence, he decided to join the Taiwan Basketball league to try his luck there. Dwight will join other former NBA players on the roster, including Troy Williams and Deyonta Davis.
Other than the LA Lakers, Howard suited up for the Orlando Magic, Houston Rockets, Charlotte Hornets, Brooklyn Nets, Washington Wizards, Memphis Grizzlies, and Philadelphia 76ers. Dwight seemed very happy to play in the Taiwanese league and will also look to replicate his NBA performance there. He waited long for a call from the NBA but received none.
Howard was a potent scorer, a dominant rebounder, and a defensive force. He was snubbed from NBA 75 but he is still a lock for Hall of Fame, but again, you never know. Howard will still be eager to see if he gets a call from the NBA after teams see his performance for the Leopards. There is still a chance that some team requiring a potent player as skillful as Dwight will remember him and give him a call. Many also believe that’s the reason why he went to Taiwan as the league needs a reminder about how useful he can be.
