“What defense is this?” Fans react to AJ Griffin’s phenomenal buzzer beater for the Hawks to call game against the Raptors

Trae Young and AJ Griffin celebrate after winning the game
The Atlanta Hawks defeated the visiting Toronto Raptors in overtime on Saturday night courtesy of a dish from Trae Young and an open bucket from rookie AJ Griffin at the buzzer. Young, one of the best passers in the NBA, threw a dime under pressure to Griffin, who converted on an alley-oop at the buzzer to upset his father’s team.
The Atlanta Hawks played the Toronto Raptors at home on Saturday night. The Hawks wanted to avenge their loss to the Raptors earlier in the season, which was undoubtedly one of their most embarrassing games, as well as to recover from their defeat by the Boston Celtics on Wednesday. Adrian Griffin, AJ Griffin’s father, is the head assistant coach for the Raptors, and in their second-ever meeting, AJ won the game and the supreme bragging rights over his dad.
After OG Anunoby made two free throws to tie the game at 122 points each with 3.8 seconds left in overtime, the drama commenced. De’Andre Hunter inbounded the ball to Dejounte Murray, who sent it to a charging Trae Young up the court with no timeouts left. Around halfcourt, Young had outsmarted four Hawks players and was left with just one opponent to overcome.
Young then threw the ball up to Griffin, who appeared to be on his own, and the rookie sunk the ball off the glass in mid-air to beat the horn and secure the 2-point victory.
Trae Young leads the Hawks to a dramatic victory over the Raptors

On Saturday night, the Atlanta Hawks defeated the undermanned Toronto Raptors 124-122 thanks to a late-game comeback. The Hawks were led by Trae Young, who finished with 33 points and 12 assists, De’Andre Hunter, who had 22 points, and Clint Capela, who had 18 points and 14 rebounds.
By making two crucial runners and a buzzer beater, AJ Griffin scored eight of his 17 points in overtime, giving the Hawks the lead and preventing the Raptors from overtaking them. Dejounte Murray scored 17 points and John Collins pulled down 11 rebounds for the Hawks, who are now 10-6 and have third place in the Eastern Conference.
In spite of several injuries, the Toronto Raptors had a season-high 28 points from Scottie Barnes and 27 more from OG Anunoby as they attempted to win their third consecutive game. Only nine players from Toronto were in gear, and three of its major players—Pascal Siakam, Precious Achiuwa, and Gary Trent Jr.—were all unavailable due to injuries.
Fred VanVleet scored 15 points for the Raptors, and Malachi Flynn, a backup guard, scored a season-high 17 points before fouling out. Despite being a young squad, they are now 9-8 and maintain the 7th spot in the Eastern Conference.
