“That’s why they call him matty ice” Fans react to Matt Ryan’s buzzer-beater as he saves the Lakers by forcing OT
Matt Ryan
Matt Ryan drained a much more difficult corner 3-point shot against the New Orleans Pelicans in the remaining 1.4 seconds in the fourth quarter to force overtime. The Lakers won the game in overtime but Ryan’s shot remained the main highlight of the game. From the coach and players to NBA fans, all showed well-deserved love for Ryan post-game.
The Los Angeles Lakers game against the Pelicans was nothing less than a thriller, all thanks to the newly acquired Matt Ryan. The New York-born rookie gave the Lakers their much-needed win in 2nd consecutive game by tying the score and forcing the OT. The fans on Twitter went ballistic and showered all praise on young Matt Ryan.
Some fans called “That’s the dash mamba with all due respect” in Mark Jackson style. Referring to his previous job another Twitter user said, “Bro literally deliver anything now”. Another fan of his also tweeted and said: “That’s why they call him matty ice.” And, these aren’t just the only reactions on the internet. As the Lakers Nation has flooded social media reacting to it. Find some of those here below:
Prior to receiving the call for the Cleveland Cavaliers Summer League team, Ryan was piloting a DoorDash vehicle, as he revealed earlier this year. He had a job at UberEats as well. Additionally, Matt Ryan was a volunteer basketball coach and he had a day job in Yonkers, New York, working in a cemetery.
The catch-and-shoot Laker cashed the corner 3-point shot to tie the game and force overtime. Ryan had given a glimpse of his 3-point skills in the preseason which led the Lakers head coach Darvin Ham to say, “He may have gotten himself a job today.” Surprisingly, Matt Ryan did not play in the overtime against the Pelicans in the overtime.
Lakers register their 2nd consecutive win against the Pelicans by Matt Ryan’s clutch time greats
Los Angeles Lakers have won two of their consecutive games after a poor start in the season. The Lakers although had as many as 16 points in the 3rd quarter but fell behind the Pelicans in the fourth quarter. But Matt Ryan saved the day for them and now he feels like LeBron James.
For the Lakers’ fans, the game was just another loss in the last minutes of the fourth quarter. With 7.8 seconds left the Pelican took a 111-108 lead with Larry Nance Jr.’s dunk. With 2.8 seconds left Lonnie Walker IV missed an open 3-pointer and the rookie, Dyson Daniels took the rebound and was immediately fouled. Daniels had to make one of the two free throws to secure the game. But the rookie gave into the pressure and missed both. LeBron took the rebound and immediately called for a timeout. Austin Reaves took the ball from out of bounds and sent a long pass to Matt Ryan who drained the 3-point shot running to his right in front of the Lakers’ bench.
The win against the Pelicans is a big win since both the wins have come against two good teams in the Western Conference. Russell Westbrook has been finding his rhythm with the 2nd squad on the floor. Lonnie Walker has been giving a glimpse of athleticism and the depth of his skills recently. These two wins are definitely good news for the Lakers and Matt Ryan should get all the well-deserved credits for keeping the team alive.
