With the Miami Heat re-signing Udonis Haslem for his 20th season, he becomes the longest-tenured player for the Miami Heat in franchise history. With this season probably being his last, Heat President Pat Riley said in the announcement that his jersey will be on the rafters once Haslem retires.
Pat Riley, during his tenure as a coach with the Heat won a championship in 2006 where Haslem played an instrumental role in clinching game 6 finals. In a statement announcing Haslem’s contract he stated, “From the first day that I saw him compete, to the last day when we retire his jersey at our FTX home, UD will go down in our team’s history as one of the best to ever play for the Miami HEAT.”
With the Heat, Haslem has been a 3x NBA champion winning the title in 2006 with Dwyane Wade and 2012 and 2013 with LeBron leading the team. He has played a crucial role on the Heat as he is the franchise leader in rebounds and has proven his loyalty to the franchise.
Fans React To Heat Retiring Haslem’s Jersey
With Pat Riley’s announcement coming out, fans were quick to pass their reactions on the decision of retiring no.40. While many fans thought it was a good idea, considering he had a role in all three of the Heat’s championships. A lot of fans were displeased by the statement and questioned Riley’s statement, mentioning how his role was unimportant considering Wade, Bosh, James and Shaq were the ones leading the team.

Udonis Haslem’s Career With The Heat
Udonis Haslem not only is the player with the most seasons played for the nets but is the leader of The all-time rebounds for the heat, 7th for scoring, 19th in assists, 10th in blocks and steals while also being 2nd in both games and minutes played. Haslem once he retires, will have left his marked in Miami.
While Udonis Haslem may not have been a star player and will likely not be a Hall of Famer. He has been an integral part of Heat Culture with Wade once taking a 1.5 million dollar pay cut to keep Haslem on the team and he is on multiple of the all-time lists of the franchise, and being with the team for his entire career, he has become a player-coach for the younger players joining the Heat locker room. Haslem has stated that once he retires he will continue to be part of the Miami Heat with an active role in the front office.
