After his high-profile departure from the Sixers last season, there is no love lost between Ben Simmons and the supporters of the team. The home crowd booed him during the player introductions on Wednesday as they welcomed him back. As the game progressed, it was obvious that the Philadelphia fans had much more in store for Simmons.

The absence of star forward Kevin Durant due to a knee injury has left the Nets in a state of shock. Brooklyn lost on the road to a potent 76ers team (137-133) that is now on a six-game winning streak. Ben Simmons has made significant progress since his horrendous 2022–2023 NBA season debut. The power forward received a rare opportunity for a new beginning from the Nets, but it eventually appeared to be a total disaster.

Ben Simmons was repeatedly booed by Philadelphia 76ers supporters, as was to be anticipated. When Simmons and Georges Niang, a former Sixers teammate, got into a fight, the Nets star was called for a technical foul for pushing Niang. The audience then broke out into their renowned “F**k Ben Simmons” chants, which elicited a harsh response from the former Rookie of the Year

It appeared for a brief moment that Simmons was encouraging the crowd to yell louder by raising his hands. No one is certain the Philadelphia supporters understood it to be a signal to one of his teammates, though it’s plausible. Here are the finest reactions from fans

Wednesday night’s matchup between the Brooklyn Nets and the Philadelphia 76ers was entertaining. Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid were playing against one other for the first time in a legitimate NBA contest on the same basketball court.

Everyone at the 76ers’ home court, Wells Fargo Arena, was waiting for a confrontation between the two former teammates. Coach Doc Rivers of the Philadelphia 76ers had the following to say about the energy and anticipation in the crowd

He said, “First play, Ben [Simmons] is guarding Joel [Embiid]. [The crowd] was like a party. It was hilarious. That’s when I turned to the coaches and said ‘this is a boxing crowd tonight.’ They want to see ’em drop the basketball, turn and duke it out”

There weren’t many sparks when Embiid had to protect Simmons and vice versa. The Australian was usually occupied when Embiid needed to be protected. Simmons scarcely made an attempt to look at the hoop, thus Philadelphia’s premier big man barely had to defend Simmons on offense.

There are still two regular-season games left between the Brooklyn Nets and Philadelphia 76ers. They’ll square off on February 11 and April 9 at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. The outcomes of these contests between Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons will be intriguing to watch.
