“Got blocked by a dude who hasn’t played in 3 years” Fans rip Naji Marshall for squaring up against Ben Simmons over a clean block

Ben Simmons and Naji Marshall

In the recent meeting between the upstart New Orleans Pelicans and the revitalized Brooklyn Nets, things got a bit chippy between Naji Marshall and Ben Simmons. In the second quarter, the Pelicans were on a fastbreak. Marshall tried to go right to the rim and got fouled in the process by Joe Harris. Trying to get the continuation and-1, Naji kept on going and attempted a layup that was swatted by a recovering Ben Simmons to prevent the three-point play opportunity.

The block was clean as a whistle with the former Defensive Player of the Year runner-up completely eviscerating Marshall’s attempted layup. Something must’ve set Marshall off about the play as afterward, he squared up with the Nets guard. Simmons calmly walked away from the situation to prevent it from getting too far out of hand.

In the clip, commentator Dave Pasch points out, “The foul was before that. It was on Joe Harris, not on Simmons.” And so it is really hard to see what Naji Marshall was really upset about, and the fans wasted no time in getting on his back and clowning him for trying to instigate a fight for no apparent reason. One tweet said, “Bro mad cause he got blocked by a dude who hasn’t played in 3 years” roasting both Marshall’s reaction and Simmons’ refusal to play last season. Another fan tweeted “Ben literally did not even provoke him. That was soft by Naji”.

Again, it’s hard to see what about Simmons’ play set Marshall off but he seemed to be in a fighting mood. It was for the better that Simmons walked away from the altercation as well. After all, they don’t call Naji Marshall The Knife’ for nothing.
