Jerami Grant is climbing the ladder of top players in the league with every game he has been playing. Since joining the Blazers he has been averaging 19.2 points per game and shooting a career-high 44.4% from the 3-point line. Grant had 5 seconds remaining on the shot clock and he used the entire 5 seconds to beat Zion inside the perimeter to drive to the basket. If Grant’s move was excellent, even better was his finish at the rim. As he drove to the basket beating Zion, he elevated to dunk the ball over two defenders.
Five players from the Pelicans scored in double digits, but could not help them defeat the Blazers. From the Pelicans’ side Zion Williamson scored team-high 29 points, Trey Murphy III tallied 16, and Brandon Ingram scored 14 points before he was finally fouled out of the game. Since starting his career in 2014 with the 76ers Jerami Grant has entered into a contract with the Blazers. This is Grant’s 5th team in the 9-years of his NBA career but Grant is just starting to catch up with the talent he has. After joining the Thunder in 2016, Grant started getting more minutes and his role in the team also changed over time. Grant became one of the primary assets on offense and defense on the team by 2018.
Grant’s breakout season came with Detroit Pistons when he averaged more than 22 points in the season. But the league started noticing Jerami Grant when he guarded 2-time finals MVP, Kawhi Leonard, in Bubble. Grant used his height to limit Leonard’s offense, helping the Nuggets beat the Clippers in the Western Conference Semi-final.
When Damian Lillard was asked about Grant joining the Blazers, Lillard said, “It was a big moment for me because I had been wanting to play with Jerami for a couple years now. Just seeing him being on a winning team in OKC, then on a winning team in Denver…… it brought him to a new comfort level with having to handle the ball, make plays and stuff.”
With Blazers, Grant has found his comfort in creating his own offense, which lacked with other teams. With his new role with the Blazers, he has been responding well to the new challenge.
