Team Canada’s journey at the FIBA World Cup will end after suffering a 95-86 loss to the Serbian National Team without two-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic. The Canadian Nation team had defeated France, Lebanon, Latvia, Brazil, Spain, and Luka Doncic‘s Slovenia before falling to Serbia in the semi-finals. Canada will now play against the losers of USA vs. Germany for third place.
Team Canada’s starting lineup consisted of NBA players Shai Gilgeous Alexander, Dillon Brooks, RJ Barrett, Dwight Powell, and Kelly Olynyk, with Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Luguentz Dort coming off the bench.
Shai Gilgeous Alexander, who made his first All-NBA first team last season, put up 15 points, 9 assists, and 2 rebounds. Knicks guard RJ Barrett posted 23 points, 2 assists, and 3 rebounds. Bogdan Bogdanovic led the way for Serbia with 23 points, 3 assists, and 4 rebounds.

Serbia stun a confident Canada team
New Houston Rockets forward Dillon Brooks had a lot to say before the semi-final match. “I’m the best perimeter defender in this tournament, in the world, and in the NBA,” Brooks said. Brooks had a disappointing game, putting up 16 points, 1 assist, and 3 rebounds. NBA fans trolled Dillon Brooks for his lofty comments before his disappointing showing.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was also under fire from fans after the sub-par game. The All-NBA first-team member was second in points per game in the NBA during the 2022–2023 season but was unable to score against the Serbian National Team’s defense. Basketball fans who were expecting a USA vs. Canada final were disappointed with the outcome of the game.
