LeBron James has, in his short and sweet career for the Lakers, achieved something many players dream of and are not able to achieve for their teams – a championship. That too, in the covid bubble when everything for everyone was difficult. Many argue, hence, that LeBron James deserves a statue outside the Lakers arena.

One such supporter of the cause is Kendrick Perkins who said, “He helped deliver a championship, and then he passed up and broke Kareem’s record. Those two things alone should have him a statue.” It was the Lakers itself, where James broke Kareem’s all-time scoring record. The Lakers sure have struggled under him but nobody can take away the 2020 championship where the team blossomed under him.

Although he joined the Lakers in the latter part of his career, he is still hitting numbers that can warrant him an MVP. For the Lakers, He has 27.4 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 8 assists playing with them for five seasons. Coming onto the sixth now, to which he recently announced that he will definitely return, he will look to create an impact like never before.

Although his achievements may warrant him a statue according to Perkins but fans say otherwise. Most Lakers fans do not like the idea of him getting the statue as he has not yet had the legacy that others, who have the statue outside the arena, have had with the Lakers. Some though had other things to say, as they defended James and flirted with the idea of him actually deserving the statue.

Here are some of the reactions from Twitter:

His nomadic career, which people allege him of being ‘ring-hungry’, has contributed to him not being associated with any particular team.

James has transcended team boundaries and has found himself in a weird situation where he has won the ring for each team he has played in, but none call him his own like they used to call LA’s Kobe or they call now – Warriors’ Curry. Whether or not he gets a statue is a question that will be answered soon, but one thing is for sure – the fans are not in favor of it.
