“He left after watching Ben Simmons shooting 3s” Fans troll Brooklyn Nets after Kyle Korver joins Atlanta Hawks
Kyle korver is undoubdtedly one of the best 3-point shooters the modern-day league, fans have ever seen. The game of basketball is entertaining enough, yet to add fans’ reactions, fundamental plays on-court, and even social media banters surely make it even better. With current news of Korver moving away from the coaching role at Brooklyn Nets, made some noise on the internet, fans have a funny hypothesis about the situation. Many suggested that former NBA champ has decided to change the franchise citing the possibility of Ben Simmons as the only star player remaining at the Nets.
To those who are not aware Ben Simmons has a respectable 56% FG but his long-range shooting is worst in among the NBA stars (just 14%) from which Korver is running away – as per fans’ perception.
Kyle Korver is a master of catch and shoot, and one of the sharpshooters from the range in the league. A career 42.9 percenter, shooting guard averaged 45% or more from the down – a record six times. He led the league in three-point shooting percentage in four of those six years. In his 17-year NBA career, he made 1 All-star appearance and recorded 53.6% accuracy from the range throughout the season (2009-10), which is the highest shooting percentage for an entire season in NBA history.
Citing his proficiency, Brooklyn Nets hired him for the player development role back in 2021, but after just 1 season of association, he elected to rejoin the Hawks. Steve Nash called Korver a “natural teacher” on his hiring last season saying he had helped teammates improve their shooting while still a player.
Kyle Korver moving away from the Brooklyn Nets is a bad sign for the franchise
Yes, Kyle Korver was not a player for the Nets, and his departure won’t affect any of the On-court activities for them. But it is a sign of internal unrest at the franchise. With Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant already looking for a change of scenario, maintaining the coaching staff and support staff intact should be a priority for the franchise. But 2015 All-Star Korver is not the only one moving away from the championship aspiring Nets.
Amare Stoudemire who had been a player development assistant said he left by mutual consent. Steve Clifford, who was a consultant to Steve Nash, left for Charlotte where he is the new head coach. More importantly, assistant coaches Adam Harrington and David Vanterpool were not renewed. Harrington was considered KD’s close friend and his departure irked the megastar. Reputed player development coach, Jordan Ott left the nest and is now with the Clippers.
So many changes in one offseason are certainly an alarming sign for Brooklyn Nets. As for the Korver, who spent most of his career with the Hawks, it would be a perfect homecoming as the franchise is in a stronger position for a deep playoff run.
The young team has just signed exciting star Dejounte Murray from the Spurs and the former conference finalist looks solid on paper. So when Korver had an opportunity to rejoin his former team, he took the opportunity without any delay. Is it because of Simmons? The internet certainly thinks so but the man has got a much bigger role in the ball club which he served the most.
