When LeBron James decided to part ways with Cleveland Cavaliers, there were plenty of suitors to sign up the mega-star, one of which was New York Knicks, eagerly waiting to get back at their supreme best. However King James eventually joined the Los Angeles Lakers in his previous free agency. An interesting story upon the same was revealed by Fat Joe recently on the ‘Certified Buckets’ podcast.

Given that the New York Knicks have urged themselves to chase NBA’s top free agents over the past few years, even with enough cap space, the team still ends up striking out. Hip Hop legend Fat Joe revealed how LeBron James’ agent Rich Paul told him that the veteran scorer is going to suit up for Knicks but eventually that did not happen. 

Would LeBron James have joined Knicks if not for Lakers?

Joe revealed, “Rich Paul told me that LeBron James was coming to the Knicks before he went to the Lakers. Told me this. He was like, ‘Yo, coming to the Knicks.’ He told me about, I think it was Kevin Durant, he said 1 million percent he’s coming, and they ain’t come true.” 

There is no denying that the ‘what-if’ scenario is basketball could have changed the entire complexion of modern-day basketball. Imagine a front-court line-up consisting of LeBron James and Kevin Durant. Surely two of the greatest stars in the league, of all-time, the catastrophe would have been beyond description for the opposition.

Both these superstars manage to average close to 30 points per game, season after season. Given their scoring prowess’, modern-day NBA fans could have seen the greatest duoship of all-time. But again, the reality was in turn different as both players joined different teams.

According to LeBron James’ current contract he would once again enter free-agency after the end of 2022-23 season. Will he sign another contract extension or will LeBron part ways to find another home? Remains to be seen, but surely fans have got some time on their hands to witness the same.
