Memphis Grizzlies‘ Dillon Brooks was ejected from the court for a serious offense in Game 3 against the Los Angeles Lakers. With less than 12 minutes left in the third quarter, Brooks found himself in a one-on-one matchup with LeBron James. He was attempting to defend James on the Lakers’ side of the court. As James executed a behind-the-back crossover, Brooks attempted to regain control of the ball by reaching out. He ended up poking James below the waist, causing him to fall to the ground in severe pain.
Unfortunately for Brooks, his actions were deemed unnecessary and excessive by the referees. This resulted in his immediate ejection from the game with a Flagrant 2 foul. This decision was not surprising to many spectators. Brooks has had a history of similar offenses, and this incident was definitely not an isolated event.
Dillon Brooks seems to be unable to avoid stirring up controversy lately. The star player for the Memphis Grizzlies has been making headlines on the internet for his provocative and contentious remarks. Among other things, he has challenged LeBron James, downplayed his career accomplishments, and even called him old. These are barely a few of his other contentious statements throughout the season.
After Brooks’ statements regarding James being “old” and him not being “afraid” of James, things immediately went south for him. People thought he’d “eat his words” or “pay” for his statements, but no one thought it would happen this way. Dillon Brooks drew considerable attention following a heated exchange with LeBron James after their Game 2 triumph over the Lakers. Brooks engaged in verbal attacks against the veteran NBA player, using words such as ‘old’ and ‘tired.’ To make matters worse, Brooks went on to say that he wasn’t concerned about James unless he scored at least 40 points against him. These comments sparked a backlash from various quarters of fans.
This indefensible foul by Brooks gave fans an opportunity to get back at him and roast him. You best believe fans wasted no time in doing that. Look at some of the fan reactions below.
Dillon Brooks’ foul against James was uncalled for, and he was punished equally severely. It’ll be interesting to watch how the series now plays out between the Lakers and Grizzlies. The Lakers were able to overcome their opponents in Game 3 and now lead 2-1 against the Grizzlies, with the teams set to face off again on Tuesday.
