The NBA appears to be entering its golden era, as the league continues to expand and more money is invested where new teams are thought to be on the way, with Las Vegas being one of the locations to obtain a team.

Owning an NBA franchise is both a profitable and risky proposition, as the value of the teams and the league continues to rise. So it’s no surprise that Floyd Mayweather, the boxing legend who is said to have earned over a billion dollars in his career, wants to acquire a team. He said: “Me and my team have been working behind the scenes with the NBA. I can’t say exactly where, but I’m working on getting a team.” Mayweather is a Las Vegas resident, and with so much speculation about Vegas being a prospective expansion team site, it’s understandable that he’s considering it.
If it is the one he wants, he will have to compete with LeBron James, who has expressed interest in owning a club in that city. He was asked about his investment aspirations during an interview with FightHype. The former world champion in five different categories gave a direct response to the question. “I’m going to have a team, whether it’s in Vegas or not in Vegas. I will have a team. I’ve been working on that for quite a while now,” Money Mayweather mentioned regarding a possible new investment.

The Los Angeles Lakers’ star LeBron James has previously stated that he would like to run an NBA franchise in Las Vegas. The NBA is exploring expanding the league, with areas like Seattle and Nevada emerging as front-runners for future franchises. According to Forbes, James became the first active NBA player to become a billionaire based on his 2021 earnings. On the court, he’s made more than $385 million and he’s made more than $900 million from endorsements and other commercial ventures.
Mayweather is worth roughly $450 million, In and out of the ring, he’s made a lot of money. His total earnings, both in and out of boxing, are estimated to be around $1.1 billion. According to Essentially Sports, Mayweather’s net worth could reach $2 billion thanks to a construction project he’s working on. The former renowned boxer and the NBA star could team up to kick off the endeavor.
