“In two years he’ll be the face of the league” Former LeBron James’ teammate apologized to Ja Morant for not picking him as the ‘predicted’ league MVP

Ja Morant, Kendrick Perkins

Ja Morant, the star point guard for the Memphis Grizzlies, is  the new favorite of Kendrick Perkins, who already has him as one of his front-runners for the MVP next season. Additionally, Perkins acknowledged his appreciation for Morant’s performance after yesterday and expressed regret over not naming him an MVP candidate last year.

The performance of Ja Morant, who has established himself as the Grizzlies’ franchise player, will ultimately determine the Grizzlies’ success as they have a strong bunch of young players. At the FedEx Forum last night, Morant led the Grizzlies to an overtime victory over the New York Knicks, 115-112. Following that, Kendrick Perkins expressed his perspective on ESPN’s “First Take” about Ja being named the MVP this season and expressed remorse over not selecting him as a more desirable candidate last season.

Speaking on ESPN’s “First Take”, Perkins stated: “Look, I wanna apologize to Ja Morant because I should have thought about him anyway before I consider him my preseason pick for MVP. Because Ja Morant is not only my MVP candidate for this season since I switched over, but in two years he will be the face of the league.” In the OT victory over the Knicks, Morant finished with 34 points, four rebounds, nine assists, and a block which made Perkins pick him as this season’s MVP.

Ja Morant’s MVP worth in 2021-22 season

This summer, Ja Morant agreed to an extension with the Memphis Grizzlies that will pay him $193 million over the course of five years and has a maximum salary cap of $231 million. For many years to come, Memphis will be dedicated to the Grizzlies’ unique icon. For the point guard, who was awarded the NBA’s Most Improved Player in his third season and came in eighth in the league MVP voting, this deal was really just a formality.

The 2019 second-round pick’s most recent campaign was his finest to date. After being named to the NBA second team and making an All-Star start this season, the 2020 Rookie of the Year was qualified for the largest contract extension this year.

Under Morant’s guidance, the Grizzlies have just finished what is unquestionably their finest season in franchise history last year. With 56 victories, they tied with the 2012–13 team for the most in franchise history, and Morant’s development as a player played a significant role in it. With an average of 27.4 points and 6.7 assists per game, he won the NBA’s Most Improved Player award.

If he keeps improving at the same rate, it won’t be long until he’s contending for MVP awards. If it weren’t for the injury that ended Morant’s season and prevented him from playing, the Golden State Warriors, the champs, might not have advanced.

Will Ja carry the Grizzlies into the Finals this season?

The Warriors, Clippers, and Suns are the Western Conference franchises predicted to be the most dominant all through the 2022–23 season. Ja Morant and the Grizzlies, however, are still underappreciated and undervalued as a contender in the West, and it appears as though they might cause issues for several teams in their conference this season. Morant will play a significant role if Memphis wants to elevate its standing among the NBA’s top teams.

Ja Morant is without a doubt the NBA player with the highest level of aggression. Others, though, find him disrespectful for his on and off-court conduct. Morant is an MVP-caliber player for Memphis and at this moment, it is evident that Morant intends to elevate his performance this season in order to help the Grizzlies reach new heights.
