Former NBA prospect sentenced to 90 years in prison after committing multiple violent sexual assaults

Ex-NBA prospect and actor Rashid Byrd was found guilty of a string of sexual assaults that began in 2015. He was sentenced to 90 years to life in prison after four years of his arrest by the LAPD. While the police began their investigation, the former NBA G League player was placed under arrest. It happened as Byrd was unable to afford the $4.1 million bail. He was detained until his conviction.

On Friday, Rashi Byrd received his punishment of 90 years to life in prison. The inquiry took aback the LAPD cops. Byrd was involved in a string of horrific sexual assaults that took place in Los Angeles and Santa Clara Counties between 2015 and 2020. He was also detained in 2005 for the same reason before the attacks in Los Angeles. Furthermore, Byrd was found guilty in 2010 of a related offense.

Following this arrest, Det. Dara Brown spoke with the media. Brown was the main investigator of the case. He talked about how Byrd had a promising start but eventually turned violent and committed rapes. Brown also appreciated the suffering lady who came out and shared her story.

Authorities claim Byrd attempted acting and seduced his victims by using his then-learned theater skills. This happened in between his basketball career. The nature of the crime remains horrifying, and some would say that justice was served.

In 2003, Rashid Byrd declared himself eligible to enter the NBA Draft. If a team had taken a chance on him, he would have joined LeBron James and Dwyane Wade in their infamous draft. To get into the league, Byrd pursued an acting career. Before being chosen for the 2008 Will Ferrell movie Semi-Pro. Byrd played the comedian’s Flint Tropics teammate. Along with this, Byrd had a string of commercial appearances.

In addition, he was cast in the 2009 documentary Bring Your ‘A’ Game. The documentary included Sean “Diddy” Combs, Ice Cube, and Mario Van Peebles. His time as a basketball player was running out. However, before this movie business, he was signed to major teams like the Sacramento Kings and LA Lakers. The teams waived him because he never played a single game for them.

Byrd began performing abroad in Africa, Spain, Vienna, Kosovo, Puerto Rico, Humanco, and Dubai. After his arrest, the investigating detective contacted him to discuss his acting career and woman-trapping abilities. Even though he never took basketball seriously, his career had already ended.
