It takes a lot of effort to get into the NBA, the best basketball league in the world. Even among the players who do succeed in the draft, the majority leave the league in a short period of time. It not only illustrates the level of quality required to compete in the league, but it also illustrates how challenging it is to assemble a team of the top athletes on the planet.

However famous rapper French Montana doesn’t share the same views. He in fact threw shade at NBA and said its easier to make it in the basketball league compared to the music industry. Speaking on the matter Montana said, “It’s like, you better off making it in the NBA than making it in hip-hop,” Montana said. “NBA, what they got, twenty-eight teams? Fifteen players on every team. You’re talkin’ about hip hop?”

He further went on to say, “You can’t even name ten people that’s hot every couple months. The odds is — anybody could do it if it was easy. So, you’re talkin’ about tryin’ to make it? The hustle gotta be relentless. Can’t take no for an answer.” Most individuals with common sense will tell you that being a professional rapper requires a ton of ability and an absurd amount of effort. However, Montana might be underestimating how difficult the NBA really is.

He has a limited understanding of the idea that some young talents become trapped in free agency. A team’s signing a player is not a privilege that every player can enjoy. The same is the truth for musicians, not every record label would be eager to create songs for them. No matter what field you work in, it all boils down to hard efforts in the end.

Basketball and hip-hop have been closely associated for many years. The two are intimately intertwined, whether it be rappers like Jay Z calling out elite athletes like Nick Van Exel in the song “Crazy in Love” or donning vintage jerseys in the music video, or elite athletes honing their rap skills during the off-season.

Shaq started rapping in the early 1990s. He put out five studio albums and one compilation. Shaq Diesel, his 1993 studio album, was certified platinum, and he has collaborated on songs with legendary musicians like the Notorious B.I.G. He appeared on Aaron Carter’s 2001 song “That’s How I Beat Shaq,” and he even caused some controversy with a freestyle directed at Kobe Bryant, his former teammate.

Damian Lillard is another name joining Shaq. In 2021 he released a record, Different On Levels The Lord Allowed. With that his music career seemed to have taken off as he’s releasing songs with famed artists like Lil Wayne and Snoop. We should also not forget J. Cole who is one of the best rappers in the world and a certified hooper at the same time.
