This season, Brook Lopez has excelled and is widely regarded as the leading candidate for Defensive Player of The Year by NBA fans. However, he was ejected from the game for the first time in his NBA career on Tuesday night after an odd altercation with Toronto Raptors guard Gary Trent Jr.
Before Lopez escalated things by pushing Trent in the direction of the baseline while out of bounds, there appeared to be some minor back-and-forth pushing. Later, Lopez made the decision to go even further, tearing off and discarding Trent’s headband.
Gary Trent Sr., the father of Gary Trent Jr., approached reporters after the game and took straight shots at Brook Lopez, “I probably would have socked Lopez back in my day. [Jr.] made the smarter decision. I wasn’t as wise when I was young,” he quoted.
But Brook Lopez ended up having the last laugh. Following his dismissal, Toronto went on a brief run that featured some impressive baskets in the paint against Milwaukee’s increasingly dubious interior defense. But those weren’t enough to win the game. As the Bucks got the dub at 130-122.

Brook Lopez on his first career-ejection
Milwaukee center Brook Lopez threw Gary Trent Jr.’s headband for a weird reason. Following an odd altercation with Toronto Raptors player Gary Trent Jr., the center for the Milwaukee Bucks was dismissed from the game for the first time in his NBA career on Tuesday night.
“It was just driving me so insane, I had to do something,” Lopez talked with reporters post-game. “It was talking to me. … You know how serial killers say the dog in their apartment building was talking? It was talking to me.” “Look, I was a real good person,” Brook Lopez remarked. “Apparently, like Steve Trent, whatever the guy’s name is, he wanted to hold me. He wanted to hold me, that’s how good of a person I was.”
When asked What had you most frustrated? he answered, “I can’t expect the refs to get it right if they’re not gonna get it right during the game, why are they gonna get it right when they replay it or any of the other calls? It is what it is. I make mistakes, you make mistakes, Eric makes less mistakes than us probably, but they make mistakes too. They made mistakes tonight. They’re human, they’re fallible, and even with the help of replay they still have a tough time, so it’s cool.” Lopez suited in for 29 minutes and contributed with 19 points, 1 assist and 1 rebound.
