Playing for just 30 minutes, Giannis also had an utterly impressive FG% of 83.3% and and led his team in scoring, with Khris Middleton also producing a double-double. Regardless, Real Madrid and Brazil football sensation Vinicius Jr. was also one of the thousands who saw the Greek Freak’s display firsthand.
Giannis made it a point to address his fellow superstar after the game and shared a heartwarming few moments with Vinicius Jr. He also gave him a pair of game-worn Freak 5, and a signed jersey as souvenirs for the long journey the Madrid star had undergone to watch the Bucks in action. The moment was caught on video, as Giannis himself posted on Twitter to further complement the 23-year-old.
Giannis Antetokounmpo will be at the center of everything Bucks achieve this season
Giannis had let his feelings known even before the season began. He was obviously chaffed after being ignored in the MVP conversation despite producing similar numbers in recent seasons as he did during his 2019 and 2020 MVO campaigns.
Giannis averaged 31.1 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 5.7 assists last campaign and is currently going at 30.8 points and 10.9 rebounds per game. Despite the numbers and being one of the best defenders in the league, Giannis has been ignored in the MVP conversation for 2 straight seasons.
Now, alongside new teammate Damian Lillard, Giannis forms one of the most fearsome duo in the NBA. The two have already helped their team to a 23-8 start to the season and considering that they are still a work in progress, can be expected to emerge as title contenders by the end of the season.
