The Milwaukee Bucks have started making their moves this off-season by signing former Los Angeles Lakers guard Malik Beasley to provide a much-needed bench depth for the Bucks.
Malik Beasley reportedly signed his free agent deal worth $2.7 million with the Milwaukee Bucks, which is the one-year veteran minimum contract. The Bucks were the first team to scoop up Beasley after he became a free agent. The move came after the Los Angeles Lakers declined Beasley’s $16.5 million extension for the upcoming season making the 26-year-old enter the free market. Laker’s decision to not extend the guard came as a no-brainer with Beasley’s production experiencing a major fall during the Playoffs.
Beasley can still be useful for the Bucks as he is still insanely valuable for only a minimum deal. The guard will be able to provide much-needed spacing for Giannis Antetokounmpo and take some offensive load off Khris Middleton.
The veteran guard was a solid offensive spark on the bench averaging 11.1 points per game last season with a 37.8% career 3pt shooting percentage. Beasley is expected to be in play with Bucks’ second unit which will likely feature Jae Crowder, Pat Connaughton and Bobby Portis.
Can the Milwaukee Bucks lure Damian Lillard?
Damian Lillard shifted the whole landscape of the NBA trade market and free agency when he demanded a trade from the Portland Trail Blazers, the news left interested teams scrambling for Picks and packaging their younger players to lure in the 7-time All-Star. Although Lillard has made it clear that he wants only the Miami Heat to be his next destination, the decision is really up to the Blazers’ Front Office as Lillard does not possess a no-trade clause in his contract like Bradley Beal.
In a likely scenario, the Bucks would have to give up multiple first-round picks along with their most coveted defenders in Jrue Holiday and Bobby Portis. Although giving up a player like Jrue will take its toll on the team but passing up a player like Lillard is a much greater loss for the team.
This trade can solve the Buck’s offensive issues and the duo of Giannis and Khris Middleton will have an actual scoring threat alongside them. The 33-year-old just came off averaging 32 ppg and would be able to rack up some serious damage if he is paired up alongside a superstar like Antetokounmpo.
