Giannis Antetokounmpo has given several hints about his future with the Milwaukee Bucks. He has given signs of leaving the franchise if they don’t build a contender around him. He wishes to recreate the championship run they had in 2021. That year, they won the NBA championship and Giannis won his first Finals MVP. They defeated the Phoenix Suns in six games, with Giannis spearheading his team to win the championship.
However, since that championship win, they have performed poorly in the playoffs. They have failed to make it into the Western Conference Finals since. They were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs this past season by the 8th-seeded Miami Heat. In the 2021-22 season, they were eliminated by the Boston Celtics in the second round. Giannis has been getting frustrated as his star teammates like Khris Middleton keep getting injured during the most important games. This leaves Giannis to do the heavy lifting.
Recently, NBA Insider Brian Windhorst predicted that Giannis’ next contract will not be with the Milwaukee Bucks. He said that it’s especially due to the fact that Milwaukee has been contending for so long, and the league isn’t designed in a way that allows a team to contend for so long. Windy said, “If I had to predict, I would say probably elsewhere and the reason is because the league is not designed to support one team contending at the highest level for this long”
He then compared the situation of Milwaukee to that of Kobe Bryant with the Los Angeles Lakers. He said that even though Kobe stayed with the Lakers for 20 years, he was once frustrated with the situation in LA and demanded a trade from the franchise. If it wasn’t for LA making quick moves to add new talent around him, Kobe wouldn’t have finished his career with the Lakers.
Giannis Antetokounmpo has made it clear that his primary goal is to win championships
Giannis Antetokounmpo is arguably one of the best players in the league and his resume says the same. In his career, he has won two back-to-back MVPs, a Defensive Player of the Year and an NBA Championship. He brought success to Milwaukee, which was unknown to the franchise ever since Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was with Milwaukee. However, the future of Giannis in Milwaukee is uncertain now, with him giving the franchise an ultimatum.

During a recent appearance on 48 minutes on Bleav, Giannis made sure his team knew what his wishes were. He made it clear that the Bucks should focus on building a contender around him or they could lose him in the future. He said that while he is a Milwaukee Buck, he is, most importantly, a winner, and if he finds a better situation elsewhere, he would take the better situation.
