With the NBA off-season in full swing, Giannis Antetokounmpo made headlines when he stated his willingness to do whatever it takes to win, even if it means leaving Milwaukee. He said that if he and his team don’t share the same goals, he won’t sign an extension and will be willing to explore better opportunities to win an NBA championship. Since then, teams have reportedly been monitoring Giannis’ situation with the Bucks closely.
Amidst a flurry of trade rumors surrounding Giannis, an NBA insider claimed that the LA Lakers are among the leading contenders to acquire the two-time MVP if such an opportunity arises. Ramona Shelburne made a recent appearance on the Zach Lowe podcast, shedding light on the Bucks’ superstar’s future in the wake of his comments.
When asked about the teams showing interest in Giannis, she mentioned that the Lakers, the New York Knicks, and the Miami Heat could be among the top contenders for his services. “The Knicks & Lakers pop to the front of my mind. And then of course you have to bring up the Miami Heat. That’s the team whenever there’s a star that may become available, you have to bring up Miami,” Shelburne said.
With the forward making it clear that his priority is winning, the Lakers certainly hold an advantage over teams like the Knicks. The idea of pairing Giannis alongside Anthony Davis and LeBron James is truly fascinating, as the former NBA champion will only add fuel to the Lakers’ fire. Indeed, a trio consisting of these formidable players would undoubtedly impose hardship on their opponents.

NBA Insider suggests Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Bucks extension depends on Jrue Holiday’s future
Giannis Antetokounmpo’s future with the Bucks remains uncertain, and despite Milwaukee’s efforts, the outlook is dim. In fact, ESPN’s Bobby Marks suggests that Jrue Holiday‘s future with the team will play a pivotal role in Giannis’ decision regarding his future in Milwaukee.
On a recent appearance on SiriusXM NBA Radio, Marks was asked about his thoughts on Giannis potentially leaving the Bucks, to which he responded, “I would be concerned based on what happens with Jrue Holiday. I think that’s going to be the X-Factor, what I’m keeping an eye on. If they lose him, they are going to be in deep trouble.”
Holiday has played a crucial role in the Bucks’ recent success, but the defensive stalwart is aging. He’ll become eligible for an extension later this year. However, if that doesn’t materialize, and he opts out of his 2025 player option, he’ll become an unrestricted free agent the following offseason.
At 33 years old, Holiday still has plenty to offer on the court. However, should he part ways with the Milwaukee Bucks, this could potentially influence Giannis’ future as well, as suggested by Marks.
