Phoenix Suns‘ recent addition of Kevin Durant as their third All-Star has drawn criticism from fans for his tendency to switch from one superteam to another. Durant has been criticized in the past for joining superteams, starting with his decision to leave the Oklahoma City Thunder to join the Golden State Warriors, where he won two NBA championships. He then formed a trio with Kyrie Irving and James Harden at the Brooklyn Nets before his latest move to the Suns.
The move was condemned by Giannis Antetokounmpo, who publicly criticized Durant’s decision. While many other NBA players may share the same sentiment, only the Greek Freak spoke out on live television against Durant’s move.
During an appearance on The Daily Show, the Milwaukee Bucks star said, “You keep joining superteams to win an NBA title. How about we work out together sometime so I can teach you how to carry your own team?”
Antetokounmpo’s comments on live television have sparked a debate among NBA fans and analysts, with some supporting his stance while others defend Durant’s right to choose his team. Nonetheless, the Greek Freak’s call to teach Durant how to lead his own team has caught the attention of many NBA enthusiasts, and it remains to be seen if the two will actually work out together.
Shannon Sharpe wasn’t pleased by Giannis Antetokounmpo’s comments about Kevin Durant
Sharpe, a former NFL player and current analyst on the show “Undisputed,” was among the personalities who expressed disapproval of Antetokounmpo’s comments. “I don’t think it was cute,” he said. “Remember what you were doing before you traded for Jrue Holiday and before Middleton came of age? You weren’t carrying anything anywhere,” he added.
Sharpe also took the opportunity to criticize Antetokounmpo’s claims of carrying the Bucks, saying that he did not always do so. Sharpe cited several instances of the Bucks losing in the playoffs before Antetokounmpo was able to lead them to the championship last season.
NBA Twitter users responded to the “Giannis Uncensored” footage, which instantly went viral on social media. Some expressed their disgust of Antetokounmpo’s remarks on Durant, while some further fueled the flames.
In another segment of the program, Antetokounmpo praised Durant, referring to him as one of the league’s all-time leading scorers and praising his talent.
