“MVPs, All-Star MVPs don’t matter to him” Gilbert Arena urges how Kevin Durant is focused on winning championship rings

Gilbert Arenas on Kevin Durant
Kevin Durant finally agreed to take back his trade request and play for the Nets in the 2023 season. His decision raised many questions, such as whether there would be a “feel good factor” about it. But former NBA star Gilbert Arenas supports the athlete. He argued that winning titles makes everything better, and that’s what KD wants to do with the Brooklyn Nets. Former NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas explained why Durant isn’t fond of being a part of a team that’s looking to build around a certain player, and rather focus on winning championships.

After 2 months of a roller coaster ride, the Nets announced that Durant had rescinded his trade request. It was an outcome of a very fruitful meeting between Sean Marks, Steve Nash, Owner Joe Tsai, and the disgruntled star. So finally the dust around KD’s future settled and he would be training with them in a few weeks.
Former All-Star Gilbert Arenas expounded on why KD doesn’t want to join a building team. He said, “You have a guy like Kevin Durant, who, by the age of 28, when it came to individual stats, he damn near had everything he could possibly have. MVPs, All-Star MVPs, gold medals. All he needed now was championship and finals MVPs. He got those two. Now, for him, it’s just, ‘I want rings.’”
It is important to notice that all the teams that inquired about Durant in those 2 months were gunning for the Larry O’Brien Trophy. Also, the teams that Durant mentioned as his preferred destinations were the top teams in each conference and had a deep roster.

Kevin Durant is set for a redemption season.

The 33-year-old megastar had heard various comments and arguments over his decisions. He was thrashed for joining Golden State Warrior back in 2016, and also for leaving them in 2019. He was mocked for his period at the Brooklyn Nets and the way his team crashed out of the 2022 NBA playoffs. Interestingly in all those seasons – with the Warriors and Nets, Kevin did his part perfectly and consistently. He even won Finals MVP trophies, winning the titles for the Warriors.
But as of now, the Nets fans have enough reason to celebrate. They finally have their marquee player playing for them again and may be with vengeance this time around. 3-time gold Medalist KD averaged 28 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists for the Nets, and if he can turn on vengeance mode, then those stats could be skyrocketed to a whole new level. Fans are also expecting the new Big Three to debut in their season home opener on Oct. 19 against Pelicans.
The Nets didn’t waste time grumping on the trade situations of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving but added much-needed firepower to their roster. Brooklyn was able to get a good trade for Royce O’Neale. Additionally, they were able to sign T.J. Warren in free agency. He’s a capable scorer and can be valuable off the bench.
With Simmons, Kyrie, and KD on the team, with shooters like Seth Curry, Patty Mills, Joe Harris, and T. J. Warren around, the Nets have one of the most explosive offenses in the league. If they can work on their defense and also a bit on team chemistry, Coach Steve Nash has a contender team in hand.
