Gilbert Arenas

Gilbert Arenas was probably one of the most notorious players the league has ever signed. Trashing talking was and still is very relevant on the court, an attack method utilised by players even today. Years ago, players often used this tactic to wobble their opponents out of focus. Sometimes things got personal while other times it resulted in really embarrassing moments.

Arenas was a beast offensively. In 2004, the Washington Wizards were looked at as serious threats solely because of his presence on the court averaging a career high of 29.3 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game. He started to show potential of becoming an all time leader in scoring but injuries had its way with him which ultimately put an end to his dominance.

Gilbert Arenas and the Wizards were not the only threats in the Eastern Conference. The Miami Heat wad on the rise and stole the scene away from the Wizards too. During Arenas’ peak, another legend began his professional career and soon took over as a young league leader. Dwyane Wade was a terrifying shooting guard who possessed the skills of a forward.

Wade also averaged insane numbers and ripped the league apart with his scoring ability. By his second year in the league, he was already averaging close to 25 points per game and his playoff run in 2006 has the world shook. He averaged 27.2 points during the regular season but dominated with 34.7 points per game in the finals including 2.7 steals as well.

Gilbert Arenas had zero regard for what his opponents had to offer. He was as fearless as they could come in fact. The former All-Star soon realised he had to humble himself while against the Heat legend. No Chill Gil revealed one instance where his teammate asked him to shut up while guarding Wade.

“I remember I had to guard him. Larry (Hughes)got fouled. Larry got two fouls quick, and I had just finished talking sh*t too… This is the first time Larry Hughes told me, ‘Yo bro, man, shut the fu*k up. If you ain’t guarding the people you talking trash about, do not say nothing.’”  D-Wade ended up with three NBA titles under his name to prove to the world that he ranks among some of the top shooting guards ever.
